Hi, has anyone here successfully tuned a 2.4 D5 163BHP engine? If so, can anyone provide me any links to decent success stories? I'm seriously considering buying myself either an S80 (or perhaps an S60) diesel in the near future. My main intention is tuning in stages without breaking the bank. Problem is, I'm a complete noob to tuning, so from nothing but pure Google, here's what I've come up with: Stage 1: £500. 1) K&N Cone Air Filter, K&N Oil and Fuel Filters. 2) 195BHP Remap. (£299.) 4) Full Synthetic 5/30W Castrol, 4) V-Power, V-Power, V-Power. Stage 2: £ rape. - Bigger Injectors. - Bigger Turbo. - Air Induction Kit. - Exhaust System. - Performance Spark Plugs? I think that pretty much covers everything. Have I overlooked/overdone anything? If I'm not to far off track, could you guys recommend any of the parts I've listed above? I'd like to keep the 30mpg+ city figure going and build the car up as sleeper as possible. What do you guys think? Am I dreaming or does it sound like a solid project? All the advice I can get is appreciated. Thanks!
- Performance Spark Plugs?
Yes they will help... My advice to you is do a lot of research/reading on the various UK forums before throwing a lot of money at something that will cost you a lot (**** loads) more money in the long run. The 163 is very good at what it does, which is economy with reasonable torque. It will never be a performance diesel and if you get it up to 210 as I did various components will start to fail again and again. HTH

What about just the remap + K&N kit?

the DMF (dual mass flywheel) & intercooler are already weaknesses on standard engines so will defo need looking at once you start stage 2. I've got a cone filter on my D5, 170k miles & dyno'd at 174bhp

How does the later engine compare? Have these failings been addressed?
How does the later engine compare? Have these failings been addressed?
i assume the intercoolers been sorted on the 185 D5 as its got a bigger turbo so would blow it sooner. I've no idea if the DMF's been changed, but euro4's gained a DPF (diesel particle filter) which zaps fuel ecomony &'s a pain to maintain
