Morning all. I recently bought a t5 of a friend of mine, he got it of a old boy who had parked it up on a garage for the last 3/4 years, He got the car out, moted it and taxed it...drove it for a week or two and sold it to me...so my question. What should i do next, i am going to drop the oil, do plugs, ht leads, air filter etc but do i need to do anything to the dizzy, auto box etc? It runs well etc and drops down the gears well but i know its been stood for a long time. Also the cam belt was changed in 61k i think (2008) and now it has 65k on it..should i change it again? Thanks all

Change the transmission fluid, also do the dizzy cap while you're there. Might be worth checking the pcv system too, as the pipe that runs on to the turbo inlet pipe gets brittle. Belt should be ok for another couple of years unless it looks damaged. HTH

Pcv system? whats this then? ta

PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. Check the top mount, hand brake shoes on rear, they are on small drums inside the rear wheel and sometimes get missed. Personally I would change the cam belt then you're sure it's done and you don't have to worry about it. Same for the aircon belt, and check the fluid level in the aircon pump. Regas the aircon, flush the rad and replace with new 50/50 coolant. That should keep you going for a while :)

Super i will have a look for that then..is they a way to check it etc? Also top mount i have just ordered a poly bush one as its already broken...sadly i dont have air con :-( As for coolant...is it standard blue anti freeze and also is they a way to bleed them up? ta

Check the aircon because (and don't go to KockFit) it may be salvageable with a new accumulator and some leak sealant - go to an aircon specialist the job will cost about £150 although specialist will advise if the problem lies elsewhere. That looks a cracking find BTW.

Thanks guys, trying not to use it now until Bush comes and can change oil etc, as for aircon I cant see a switch for it so guess i dont have it Also talking of air filters, do u guys recommend A induction kit or just a panel filter? My plans are Exhaust, air filter of some sort and a remap. Of course this is all When i can afford it. I was thinkin of a dump valve but think It might sound daft on a auto, wht do you lot think? Thanks

seen your car pics abay link you dont have a/c mate as it beside the air recirculate swith on the heater control panel ,,or in your case isnt, lol and as for your ignition switch just turn it back slightly shouldnt require a wiggle lol

brilliant guys thanks very much..so what do you guys think to induction kits or panel filters...which would you recommend? ta

i have the bsr induction kit and surround, lovely bit of kit and very popular in here, does give a lovely recirc wossh on liftoff tho im manual, also led to believe that the turbo is more responsive as it spools slightly earlier with the induction kit there is vids on youtube for induction kit sound,

Brill i will have a listen on youtube then...just didnt want it sucking too much heat and dropping a few extra horses. Thanks again

If you go for an induction kit, make sure you enclose it and fit a cold air feed to avoid pulling - in hot air from the engine bay. Also check your wastegate isn't seized, standing on a driveway for a while doesn't do them any good (if you can get your hands in) grab the actuator rod with both hands and give it a good pull towards the turbo and let it go again. It only needs to move a little. If it seems solid or sticks a bit, it will need the heatshield off and a liberal dose of plusgas and some tapping with a toffee hammer to free it. (then you could shorten the actuator arm to give you more boost but this method is subject to many opinions which I'm sure this post will stir-up shortly...)
Pcv system? whats this then? ta
easy way to check if the pcv needs doing is to pull the dipstick out while the engine is running and warm. If you get smoke/steam coming out it needs doing.

thank you chaps...to be honest, cant see the benift in the induction kit at the moment, so think i am going to put another air feed in the the box, as for the other thing..will get her warmed up and check the dip stick. Thank youuuuuuu

Hey Chaps, seen this on ebay, would it go well with the 16t i have on its way or is it pointless? Thanks http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-S60-V70-T5-ME7-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD-/300578678317?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item45fbe2a62d

Post 396261 by Yorkshiresxi on 2011-07-19 17:27:25

hmm will have a look for a dump valve maybe when the funds come up, i have just done the run it warm and remove your dipstick test and shes smokin...so how long have i got to change the pcv system, i mean if i leave it a month what damage will it do? Is it a job that needs doing tomorrow or if i do it nxt month will it be ok.. ta

Me again.... Couple of things, Been speaking to a top chap on ebay, who is from here - T5 ROB and he said best thing to do is unplug the PCV system and pull the pipe out so it doesnt have any back pressure, so will be trying this unless anyone says noooooo Also...been offered exhaust manifold from two vehicles but the bloke who is selling them isnt much help..so would be better for my 850..a manifold from a 2001 2.4 s60 T S or a 1998 C70 T5 GT auto... Or will they both be the same as what i have now. Thank u
