Thought somebody may like a bit of a bargain. So here it is again. It was supposed to be going to my house-mate Joe, but he just couldnt get his insurance down to anything sensible, (less than £1300 due to his lack of insurance for a year a short while ago) so now i have to fix his Corsa for him . . .   What is it. . . Well most of you know, but here is the shopping list. 2001 V70 T5 S in polar white. Air con, Leather, Cruise control, and all the usual bits and bobs. 270,000 miles (or thereabouts) Engine replaced at 225,000 miles by one from a 2002 S60 that had had it replaced by a factory re-con some time during it's life. At a rough guess I'd estimate that the engine is now on somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000 miles. Recent replacements include long driveshaft, front wishbones and top mounts, and clutch slave cylinder. I've just replaced the front bumper cover, as the last one was cracked where a rock hit it. Overall the mechanical condition seems to be OK. I've been regularly clocking up 1000 miles a week in it with no worries at all. Bodywork is a little tired as you'd expect from a car of such mileage. It has a lovely collection of stone chips on the bonnet, and the odd car park ding here and there. There are two small CB antennas on the roof (one fitted) and two GPS receivers. It was about to go to a friend of mine of 25 years, so it's not a crock being dumped. I was expecting to have to run it till the end of 2010, but a burst of jobs at work mean I can afford to swap it somewhat earlier :D :D :D So what's been done to it? Well what a complete nightmare (looking back) Initially it had a Rica 310 re-map. (500) Hamish also sold me a piece of sponge for £60 (ITG) Next was the VT 16T/KKK hybrid turbo. (£900) This was complemented by £500 worth of Volvo green injectors. Hamish fitted one of his tin foil downpipes with race cat (it still has a patch on it where it developed a slight puncture) for £500 It then had a Jetex catback fitted at £300 SW Autos stuffed a Walbro fuel pump in it at a very reasonable £100 which was made less reasonable by all the journeys I had to make till he fitted it properly. For a further £500 HLM fitted Eibach springs and Koni FSD suspension. Adam Weber tried to map it at the cost of £250. This only stayed on for 8 weeks. Eventually MTE re-mapped it very very well for a further £550 At 225,000 miles it had a brand new Volvo clutch fitted by Braydon Motors (that cost me £750) It's had one or two minor "bodges" fitted by myself. Currently the larger of the lower tie bar bushes is bypassed with a steel plate (Hasn't added much more noise) I did the square washer strut brace conversion, and the top mount although fine has had a hole drilled into the casing where a bracket was fitted. In all honesty it needs a bit of general maintenance, the rear bushes may need looking at soon, but still handle OK at the moment. There is a slight, but I emphasise slight, bearing noise from the PAS pump (so I will include a replacement one with it) Front tyres are a bit close to the bone, and the handbrake sticks occasionally when left for a period of time. There is a slight hiss in the cabin from the brake servo when the weather is cold and the car is cold, but it has been doing this for over a year now with no degradation in braking performance. The current MTE map is an absolute gem of a map. It has been optimised for an Aquamist setup, but that has been removed from the car. Unlike the earlier Motronic 4.4 cars the ME7 has an intake temp sensor and knows when the intake temps are climbing. Lack of Aquamist should be noticed by the ECU and dealt with in a safe manner. If this is not satisfactory the car can be re-mapped back to a non-WI setup, or a WI system can be easily added. All in all the car performs bloody well. It will leave most things standing and drives superbly. I see no reason why with a little maintenance and care it wont do a good few years more service. It had posh headlights and genuine Volvo flat wipers fitted, and is currently running on a set of 2005> Orestes 17" alloys As I mentioned elsewhere the cosmetics are a little tatty, but the car is solid. As a reflection of the condition and not being a person who is comfortable with over charging for things (god knows how I manage to run my own company) I shall ask a fair price. That price is £1500 (drive it away) Included is the remaining Tax and test (a few months) Now this car could easily be broken for parts and make more than said £1500, but I really can't be bothered and it is a real shame to cut short the life of such a well tuned car that still runs OK. So there it is..... Photos following very shortly.....

I need to make space and off load this soon, so it may end up on e-bay if no solid offers appear in the next week or so.

That's the best/most honest pitch for a car sale I've ever seen :) That thing is seriously quick 60-100
That thing is seriously quick 60-100
I thought that 2. Is this a timing on a rr? If it is, then there wouldn't be any drag, hence why its so bloody quick!
Describing it as a piece of crap in the title is probably not the best sales technique ive ever seen though. Looks nice though
It wasn't Joules who classified it as that, but rather another 'member' on this board. At least no one can complain about what's up for sale, He could have gone into an amazing sales pitch, and requested Justin Edit out all the adverse posts regarding the car going back to way back when, However, how it got classified as a 'explod piece of crap'. was mainly lost in the 'big VPC crash',

LMAO. That drag run was done down the side of an airfield. It was raining at the time so I couldn't get all the power down at lower speeds. 0-20 times there are pathetic, but as you say the 60-100 does show the true performance. Whoever buys it will be quite suprised.

Post 298389 by t5_monkey on 2010-03-27 13:12:12

60-100 in 5.78 is brilliant, 50-70 in 2.2 is pretty awesome too. Mine does 60-100 in 7.6 :snail: Something isn't quite adding up though - you're getting 212bhp at the wheels on your dyno, I've been dynoed at 228bhp at the wheels, yet your car is a) about 250kg heavier and b)24% faster through 60-100. This means... your power requirement to hit the measured performance target would be: (((your kerbweight/my kerbweight)*your performance advantage)*my power at the wheels) (((1680/1430)*100)*1.24)*228 = 333 bhp at the wheels. This makes the current figures 44% out - quite a discrepancy! *puzzled face* We could sit down and work out the theoretical power needed to accelerate from 60-100 in that time, I suspect it would probably be as much as - or more than 212bhp at the wheels, but I can't be bothered. Time to dig out those physics texts books I think. A Ford Focus RS with 295bhp with an LSD only runs 0-100 in 14.4 in the dry I believe (as tested by autocar) so 13.42 in the wet is pretty epic. that said, it's a lot of car for the money and I'm just being a picky **** now.
I need to make space and off load this soon, so it may end up on e-bay if no solid offers appear in the next week or so.
Suggest telling us all where you are located? This is a great Q car. If anything, if it is a bit tatty, it all adds to the fun. That said, do those of you with white V70 find that the traffic in front is forever sticking to the speed limit when they see you? Or do they just get out of the way... :B_thumb:

This is because the biggest drag losses are in the tyres, therefore a single roller dyno has much less drag than a twin roller dyno. Even twin roller dyno types can vary in drag losses depending on the roller design.

Apart from having no standard calibration across all dynos, there are far too many variables in the chain. Phase 2 cars like mine monitor far more parameters and adjust the engine output accordingly (especially IAT sensor) This means that when things get hot they will not just carry on regardless like an 850 will. You see the VADIS plot where I monitored intake temps. On the dyno they reached 70°, dirctly after I ran it out on the road where they reached only 40° The dyno dynamics plot was done on a day where we all ended up sunburned. That day I only made 1.2 bar of boost. It's true that the best judge of performance is how it runs on the road. And the times there tell an interesting story.

Post 298415 by t5_monkey on 2010-03-27 14:36:15

I went through some pain when I got mine dynoed at 230 at the wheels, cause I Was expecting more. I totally agree - Dynos are a real con - I reckon 1/4 mile terminal speed is the most honest measure of a car's 'real world' performance. I've seen some people claiming 330 lbs feet of torque on a stage one with the S40 and focus ST, and you see focuses all the time claiming 300bhp+ on standard turbo (which is utter guff and physically impossible.) Wobbly dave made a very good point when he talked about the 'spread of torque' which makes a big difference too. It's like the old 'I caught a fish THIS big' thing - the evidence is never quite of the quality you'd hoped for.
Who the feck takes acceleration times on a RR????? That time is a proper on road acceleration time for this car, it really is that quick.
SORRY! I know its dumb, just trying to think of an explanation on how a car with less than 300bhp can do 60-100 in less than 6 secs, considering the weight of the car.

Post 298589 by bonelorry on 2010-03-27 23:46:57

Great pitch joules and love the title if you know what i mean :) As i said on T5D5 its a hell of alot of car for the money with some very choice parts fitted and an awesome custom map. The time, Effort and money thats gone into it more than warrants the price tag IMO. Whoever buys this will be getting a bargain and a seriously quick Q car :B_steerin

As there are a couple of different bhp figs, were the dyno graphs done at different stages of tune, with the different maps etc. Which 1 was done in its current state of tune?

Post 298600 by PNuT on 2010-03-28 07:18:13

why oh why do people concentrate on max BHP produced.... there are far more important things involved!

A car of that weight with less than 300 bhp would find it very dificult to do such a time. Just don't believe the dyno plots. ;) Ive no idea what power the car has, but I do know what times it does. :)

They were recorded with the iPhone app "dynolicious" and terminal speed was verified against the vehicles calibrated speedometer.

Sorrt if i say dumb things sometimes, but don't know that much about the mechanical/technical side of things, 1 of the reasons i'm on here is to learn more. So when i'm wrong about things i'd like people to correct me, so i can learn, but please do it nicely, you might hurt my feelings
