Raced a sierra cossie

Came over the datford bridge this evening and went past abouth 6 cossies all of different types,anyway lined up next to a white sierra with an rs50 rear spolier i dont know if it was a real rs500 or not!!Both our tolls opened at the same time i got a little jump on him in first by about one car length by 120 liptons i had 3-4 lengths really nothing in the performance.I slowed down and the bloke and his passenger were pissing themselves lol ( i also had a passenger),gave me the thumbs up and then they slowed for the rest of the gathering.Does anybody know of any events in the kent area on the 18th of june or where they may have been heading? or have a link to a busy ford forum,i would love to see what he had done to it!I have tried the passion ford site but cannot search onit.Any help much welcomed

i love going thru that tunnel on wot, theres not a better sound :rice:
i had a small race against my mates Escort Cossie ages ago now & was pulling away from him with ease, very surprised as it was raining at the time (so much for 4x4 :slap: )

indeed, but i would have thought the 4x4 system would have gave him the advantage full stop in those conditions

depends on speeds, if 0-60 you are doomed!, but 60 and above you going to have less probs with grip

Cossies arent fast as standard though.
Escort Cossie is 15.8 0-100 in standard guise, on a dry road, using 4wd.
Rover turbo, 2wd, standard with 23 bhp less, does 100 in 15.4, with 60 half a second slower than the cossie, so kills it 60-100.
Last check I did 107 in 13.4 seconds, so, yeah, cossies dont impress me unless they are tuned, in which case, they can be very fast, guy up here runs 10.3-10.5 at Crail in his escort, not standard ;) lol
As for RS500, no faster than a normal rwd Sierra Cossie, just it has better faciliteis for tuning, ie extra injector rail, better IC etc.

I chased a 4x4 Sierra down the b-road from crail, was killing it. running 11psi (200-210 bhp tops) , crap brakes and Koni suspension.
It only got away when I lunched the whole car into the ground at 85mph and shattered the gearbox casing lol, oops, sorted now, different springs.
4x4 is better yes, but only if you have the talent and bollocks to use it, which 99% of 4wd drivers dont have, yet 99% of 4wd drivers think they do.

PS- I'll take a wet challenge any day Dave, chances are it would rain at some point during any day to be honest lol. Rover partiallygrips in 2nd in the wet, need to back off though to keep it on line for apex's, grips fully from 3rd onwards, and belive me you'l have to be quick from 60-100 to stop me passing you when it does lol

totaly agree!, i dont have the talent or the bulls to use it!
my car is a little bit tail happy sometimes, ive had it come round on me on wet roads a couple of times, i wasn't provoking it, but thankgod for dstc!, which stoped the problem after a few secs.
on a real twisty low speed corners, i think 4wd i far better, ie rallying!

Todays the day to test your springs etc out...go hang about Knockhill cos the place is crawling with allsorts of 4x4 cossies ( RS owners club today )!!! I have already had some fun with them going from The bridge to Kelty to Knockhill and they werent getting away from me on the way up this morning!!

i used to own a 4x4 sierra 2.8 bout 10 years ago when you drove like it should be drove nothing could keep up with it.great drive

they were on the m25 when i passed them all doing 50mph :slap:

i went through the tunnel at around 9ish,2 more cossies went out of the lanes to the right and did them to.Ross this sierra was not std i know how the should be std.My car is also not std and goes very well.k690bpp when i passed them over the bridge there were also going very slow.I still havent found what they were upto had a look at passion ford and the rs owners club but havent found anything all good fun,the look on the blokles face :wtf: followed lots of laughing.

lol Dave, eh, theres been a few teething problems yes, all weak points are being tested to destruction, better now than in front of a packed TOTB crowd and the Sky Sports cameras in July lol.
think the gearbox was the most painful one, destroyed the front pipe at the same time but it hadnt had the custom front pipe and FMIC done at that point so no further harm done. car was just too low on the Koni springs so swapped them for H&R ones, kept the adjustable koni dampers.
I was way to ill to go anywhere, never mind racing at Knockhill and the surrounding private roads lol, very very drunk last night when I made the post, and very very hungover today.

Not too sure actually Dave, and I guessed at it being Sky Sports, though I think it is IIRC, sky sports 2 or 3 I would imagine. It's not shown live, usually show it a few months after the event I think, as well as the DVD's being for sale.

i just thinking there, that if your car can do 13.4@107mph?, then your 0-100 is wot, 11/12secs?

yeah something like that.
Linearly it would be 12.5 0-100, but you dont accelerate linearly, rate of acceleration drops as the speed climbs. at a guess 11.5-12.0 I would reckon, not bad for an 11 year old Rover ;) Still a bit more to come as well hopefully.
