sort an sweet how does the gear knob come off? is it just a case of twisting it off or is there a secure fixing under the gaitor?

mine had to be cut to pieces, when i fitted a new one(R):duck:
think id rather not go about cutting it to bits,.. surley they must unscrew or something :S
u have to be built like he-man to get it off it's a mega tight fit probabley better using a junior hacksaw to chop it in half
haha so they do jus screw on?

well that answers my question for my dads V70 d5sport!! thanks dude. still stuck on my own 850, vadis is tellin me it screws off and also to cut it off!!
oopsy didnt realise theres 2 threads lol
haha no worries man,. like i said my dad isnt too keen on the leather ball above his selector (like that first picture) and wants a custom one putting in place
To get mine off, I had to use a hacksaw to cut the bottom of the gear knob away from the square part at the top of the gaitor. Then using a hammer and chisel to strip the hard foam of the gear knob to show the plastic inner core. Back to the hacksaw to make a split in the pastic all the way down, and use the chisel to prise it back. The problem is that it isn't screwed on, there are 2 sets of 4 plastic grips that sink into the metal gear shaft, and I couldn't find a way of getting to them.
And i thought changing my auto was hard :D Lee

haha the abuse!! lol,.. well it seems that will be the only way to do this,.. thank god ive got an extra car for spares.. think ill get to makeing one then. cheers guys
i think these cost 60-70euros, at least the R one did:sorry:
ahh im looking at some sutle stuff,. an moveing away from oem gearknob. just a simple touring style one for me,.. as i tend to just flick/push the gearstick into place rather than hold its shape. if you get me
nice feeling though:wiggle:
yep hacksaw was the only way i could get mine off (nice momo touring on there now)
oh well like i said still got the estate for spares if anythin mess's up. 850twr you got any pictures??
Short and sweet...and I'm being serious...grip your (gear) knob with both hands and pull up sharply. Sounds kinda rude, but it works. No cutting or hacksawing required.
haha think i preferr that idea better than cutting it up.. ill try anything before i become a butcher
oh well like i said still got the estate for spares if anythin mess's up. 850twr you got any pictures??
will post one when i get back from work tonight for you.

cheeres man,.. hmm might try that later on cars gnna be off road for a while as i replcae the pcv system so soemthing to do.

I am thinking of changing my knob for a MOMO one, do you fancy a carbon fibre one?
looks cool man,.. gonna stick to my custom on ive got a few ideas to try out though as for custom shifter/gaitor.
