The time eventually came and I am now a proud owner of a C70 T5 :D All I can say is whenever I put my right foot down this happens....> :D Going from a 2.4 non turbo im going to have to quickly change my driving technique! I put my foot down in 2nd while goin round a corner before.. lets just say I wont be doing that again! lol. find a nice straight (private :)) road and just hold on. Had a nice chat with 'malkitt' this afternoon and regarding the difference between a 2.4 non turbo and a T5, ill let u take my saffy for a spin if u like Mal. Its amazing how much difference a turbo can make. Even before the turbo really kicks in, from about 1700 revs it is much more responsive. Got an interesting sound when travelling at high speeds though. After it gets to 90mph and above (on a private road of course :)) the slight wind noise from the the drivers window turns into a near enough ear piercing whistle. I suppose on one hand its a good warning that im going too fast! so perhaps its not a problem! hehe. I better change my sig now! :D

Nice one fella. Enjoy the ride.

Using silicon based trim products eg back to black on the seals can reduce wind noise. You can adjust the window regulator. Before doing so I'd adjust the door lock locator (on the door frame). It takes a couple of large torx bolts - loosen and tap the locator inwards to encourage a tighter seal on the window (door closes a couple of mill tighter) I hope you enjoy the new ride. I am lucky - my old black one used to whistle all the time - the silver one doesnt. It is mostly due to door droop, over time.

Enjoy the new ride!

Congrats on the new ride. I had a 2.4 Normally Aspirated V70 as a courtesy car a few weeks back. It felt like it had no engine, and it's still a 2.4. Going back a few years I would have loved the idea of having an engine that big. Just goed to show how much we are spoiled by the T5.

Welcome to the club... As for the noise, wot WD said. I've got some trim detailer if you haven't got any. Either that, or wot I do, turn up the music! :worthless

I would say that there is a good chance a loud whistle under full boost could also be a leaky boost pipe or a leaky boost valve. :(

Post 160154 by OogieBoogie on 2006-11-10 11:38:47

Have to say mine hasn't made a sound in the 10 days I've had it, and I've been listening out for it over the 100....
I would say that there is a good chance a loud whistle under full boost could also be a leaky boost pipe or a leaky boost valve. :(
Its defo the window, only does it above 90mph. Scared the life out of me first time it happened. The wind noise on the motorway is always there but as soon as I got to this speed it sorta went pop and the sound increased by 100%. However it didn't do it at all last night!! So nothing to really worry about on that side! One thing I have noticed... sometimes the power steering can go really stiff. Most of the time its nice and smooth (easy to turn). I was doing a 3 point turn the other night and suddenly the steering went really heavy for a few seconds! hasn't done it since though *Shrug* Will post some pics up tonight Dave :D it needs a good polish though! Wobbly are u about? hehe.

Down here! (Birmingham). I am prepared to travel (for expenses) if you have somewhere suitable to work (garage preferred). Full 8 Stage detail will set you back about 120 quid - but the effects are permanent and extremely shiny

Especially the permanent claim u make as it does my head in how I was my car and 1 day later. I will be in touch Dave as I have just gotta sort out all the fun things like, tax, insurance blah blah.

A lot of time, effort and money. I removed all but the most subborn scratches... http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/galleries/july_2006_CYC.htm Volvo's are not easy as the top coat is very hard (bit like VAG paint) The steps roughly speaking are Wash Dry Clay Polish (hard cut) Polish (light cut) Glaze Seal Final Wax coat Wheel detail (inc special wax)

Wouldn't mind having that done myself, let me know if you are going ahead with it Mel, maybe we could share Wobbly's expenses .

Post 160864 by c70mel on 2006-11-12 09:35:23

Bit of a shine on these pics which is strange. Still needs some work on the paint though. Let the modding begin! :D

Post 160867 by c70mel on 2006-11-12 09:40:22

Going to miss my old one :( although the wheels will be sticking with me.

Im going to probably give it a good wash and wax myself. If it still isn't how I would like it (which is probably going to be the way) we will sort something out.

The main issue at the moment is the lack of light/decent weather. I am currently saving up for one of these... http://www.ez-up.co.uk/dome2.htm though I would prefer this one... http://www.ez-up.co.uk/speedshel.htm Garage access would be better - so that we'd be out of the elements all together

A garage is the best thing but if those tent type covers have side panels then that would be good.

It is a problem I have to battle with all the time here - detailing outside in an area surrounded by trees. grrr!
