I think I'm the only one who posts in V-series forum, so I'm going to do this in Off Topic. There is more action here.:gossip:
QUESTION: How many of you have OBDII Code Reader's? This sounds like a wise investment to me. I noticed they are On Sale at IPD, I could pick one up on the way home from work today. It comes with a manual, hopefully a list of codes. Can anyone say they have saved a bunch on shop costs by owning one of these gizmos? Does the manual really give you codes that actually happen? And if you do decifer a code, are the Volvo dealerships willing to give you help with remedial steps.
Thanks

I'm not sure if they would. Firstly, diagnostics time = money. Secondly, most reputable garages would want to read the codes for themselves, rather than relying on your own code reading and interpretation, so they will read the codes anyway.
Would you go to the doctor, tell him what you think is wrong with you and offer your own diagnosis, and then expect him to treat you without him examining you anyway?
In my opinion, it only makes sense to have your own code reader if you are actually going to fix the symptoms yourself, or will get a mechanic to do it who doesn't have the diagnostic tools.
Adam.

I totaly agree Adam but I thought I'd ask the question anyway. In some cases the codes tell you simple things such as a bad O2 or a vacume leak, which most of us would indeed tackle. I guess my real question is if one did purchase this reader, is there a resource that list the codes and that tells you the remedy might be. I am wondering if maybe the documentation that comes with the reader has remedial information. I would think someone who owns one of these would know. I was hoping to hear from someone that has one of these things. Aynone, anyone?
