Hey all,
Well i need more powerrrrrrr (Jeremy Clarkson styleee). My C70 2.4 N/A just aint pleasing me enough (power wise).
I have been looking for a nice T5 now for about 3months and have found NOTHING! Only one I did find was one that I looked at and made an offer on before I bought this one a year ago! what are the chances of that!?!? it wasn't that good anymore so didn't bother with it.
Anyhoo... I am now having thoughts about possibly getting a 2.0 lpt C70. I have heard that these have a smaller turbo compared to the T5 and as a result u get the power lower down in the revs. I dont like to rev my engine and very rarely go above 5000rpm so this sounds ideal for me! Plus you can RICA these engines to give an impressive 240bhp, basically a T5 setup.
So what are you thoughts, opinions, etc etc :) a 2.0 lpt would prob save me money on buying the car and insurance! plus I would find it this century compared to finding this miracle T5 im after, BUT I dont wanna get a 2.0 lpt and then be looking for a T5 to get the 280bhp.... droool just thinking about that.

Dont do them in C70 coupes.
MPG wise realistically isnt going to be much difference with the way you drive. T5 power comes on full from 3k rpm anyways and in standard form is totally un-stressed, re-mapping a 2.0l t from 163 bhp to 240bhp will put stress on the turbo and for the few hundred rpm less the turbo will come on song I would much prefer a standard T5 with the extra top end if you did need it!

Are you saying that a standard T5 is designed to take more power or be more capable of taking more power then? If the difference between the lpt and hpt turbos will be a few hundred rpm before they really kick in then thats not as tempting as I was thinking.

Wrong forum to go asking those sort of questions!!
If you are not bothered about fuel costs go for the T5.
I love mine and "pay for it" accordingly it can drink.

correct me if i'm wrong but the way you are talking is if you think a T5 is only a 2 litre with a hpt. but if you know its a 2.3 then just ignore me, a late T4 is a hpt. 2 litre:confused:

Basically yes, if you bolt a T5 turbo to a 2.0l t chances are you will blow it up quite easily as the internals arent designed to take the power, you can as mentioned get it upto around 240ish but that will reduce the life of the engine and anymore power would be very difficult or unreliable to achieve.
Ive driven both and yes its noticeable that the 2.0l t kicks in earlier but realistically its probably just over a seconds difference before full boost if that, and the T5 will already be boosting probably at the same level of the 2.0l t just it wont reach full boost at the same time.
With regards to mpg between the two in the C70, probably talking 2mpg ish difference, its not alot!

Yeah got u with the bolting a T5 turbo onto a 2.0ltr.... so would a T5 have its life reduced if you RICA it up to 280 and beyond. I cant imagine Volvo have designed a T5 to be able to take more power and have left the 2.0 to be not able.......
AHHHH , sorry just noticed that were talking about increasing the 2.0 160odd bhp to 240odd bhp, thats alot! I can now understand it would probably give the engine some strain doing that.
Can some1 explain this:

The C70 T5 1999-2003 only has a 310 increase? I thought that was a stage 2 or something and the first stage is upto 280bhp? Or have they just not put it?

i know :) its just im impatient and was hoping a 2.0lpt could fulfill my demands, however looks like im goin to have to keep trawling through the car adds every week for another year as I have gathered a T5 is the way forward :)

Reason why its taking so long is I dont want to travel too far as well. I have a mechanic who can have a look at it but dont wanna be driving him 100odd miles to see one.
budget wise, well depends how much I will get for mine, I think ive lost a silly amount of £££ on it :( V reg 2.4, 76000 miles, excellent condition. Ill get £4000 may be £5000?
Cheers :)

Both my C70's have been some distance away. I have also travelled far and wide looking at a few. Not sure you can restrict yourself if you are impatient.

It's worth the wait in the end... I picked mine up in Croydon in the end, not far from Manchester is it!
