Where do you work?

Hi all. I am really intrigued into what people do for a living or what businesses they have and how you are all so connected with Volvo's. Clearly I have worked out that Adam works at or owns Volvo Tuning but what about Mrs M, T5ER, VIKING, MURPHY ( and Murpheys friend Tristan with the nice motor for sale ) to name a few as you all seem to be car bonkers! Even in the picks in this thread of bad parking pictures loads of the pictures seem to show other T5's?? Surely thats not a coincidence. I have been watching and reading so many comments but cannot really participate in postings as I do not currently have a T5, although I have just read a post of Mrs M asking for someone to go to Bristol to see a car for her, and I hope that means she is selling one again soon! I am not dodgy or a stalker or anything like that, its just that if people are experts in Volvo's and have businesses that are related to them, then I would like to get to know these people better in the future and hopefully use them myself. Sorry for the long post but I have not had a lot to say in a while and wanted to get it all on one post!:sorry: Going to get back in my box and constantly update the Volvo's for sale section to see whats coming up. Perhaps people could post if they are thinking of selling in the next 6 months!! All the best.

I was a project co-ordinator in the construction industry but as of the last couple of weeks I have been actively seeking a new job (one where I dont get harassed lol) and will be starting my new job @ the local council's property department. I've never worked in the motor trade although I have thought about it. As for more than one volvo in pics of mine, thats probably because between me, my ex and my brother (Justin) we seem t have our fair share of them so would be rude not to include them on the pics lol :D And yes, if the other car comes off I will be selling my S70 LOL x

For the past 8 years i have worked at a volvo main dealer in the parts department. i spend most of my time doing the body shop orders and i frequently (most days) visit many bodyshops around south wales area. if theres a big smash i tend to go to see the vehicle and discuss the order with the bodyshop face to face and i am the point of contact for most of our trade customers really. i also do the over the counter type work there, and generally deal with the retail and trade customers. we have a medium sized dept with a fairly high turnover. theres one manager, then me, two other parts advisors and two vans and two drivers. the workshop side i dont really get involved with, we have one bloke there who does all that side really, though he gets stressed easily, so i do help him out when i can lol. i have allways had a genuine interest in cars which is handy as its my job too lol. been in the motor trade for just over 10 years now, allways in parts, though it started as a part time job, then as a work placement, then full time. lucky i enjoy it otherwise i would have been long gone years ago, as money wasn't too clever, but its better these days.

dont know if i should say? but here goes im a taxi driver have been for 10 years getting a bit sick now though before that was trainey mechnic but thats another storey, before u ask yes i use my R for work and yoused my s80 before that in fact had a few volvos for work and you cant get a better car they do the milage and are big and comfy as well all my colleages think im daft haveing a petrol car but ive always wanted an R and i love it. i know what people think ov taxi drivers and there most proberbly right in most cases but people say the same about volovo drivers too so im deffo knackered arnt I lol

I have been here for four years now, but used to be a car salesman when i left college. What do you do? Hi, i currantly run my own own car valeting business called waxworks but have worked in the motor trade for volvo as a service advisor briefly. I have also been a qualified chef, print finishing assistant, warehouse supervisor and repairs adimnistrator for Fujitsu Siemens. Quite a varied list but i do prefer the valeting by far even though some people don't realise that it can be hard work! :) I'm just waiting to be discovered as the worlds best boddy popper......... not!!!:biggrin:

I currently work as a construction consultant, working for a private consultancy in oxford. I have worked for a private garage about 8 years ago as a mechanic and sprayer. But apart from that i have always been working in the construction indusrty. Although there was a time whilst married i use to run my own wedding car company and owend 3 rollers. very nice.

I live in Rochdale and my job is to clear the trees around overhead powerlines. I work in and around the Cheshire area. When branches come into contact with the lines the tree can catch fire easily. We use insulated rods to cut round the lines and make the job safe. We deal with lines from 240v to 33,000 volts.

I work from home most of the time but travel all over the UK and India the rest of the time. I've worked in information/internet security for 10 years and it's a constantly changing and challenging environment which has good and bad points. But hey, it pays the bills.

I work as an IT integration consultant contractor... I am self-employed and companies pay me to go and tell them how to 'integrate' software with other software so all of there networks work in sweet harmony... Every fibre of my being tells me I shouldn't drive a T5, cos I do nearly 25k miles a year, so I could easily justify a nice diesel, but it's sooooo sweeet :)

thought i'd bring back a thread from the past, i teach & examine people on numberous MHE (mechanical handling equipment) ie forklifts, order pickers & VNA's (very narrow aisle trucks) for a big logostics company. (missed a massive opportunity a few years back when the guitarist from Skin offered to teach me, trouble was he was living in London at the time and I couldn't afford to get down to him) I am a Class 2 Hgv driver (Harder working than the class one guys...we do stuff when we get our load where it's going), currently working through an agency for TNT. Also do some airbrushing (see sig link) and make one off panels from fibreglass.

Spent 8 years in Retail Security, one of those years working the doors for some extra beer tokens (hated it). Quit it all and now work in investments (nearly 4 years) and spend the majority of the day chatting to Financial Advisers. And part time I drive daleks for the BBC

been in motor trade most of my life, had a time out few years back in sales of kitchens. have just decided its time to try a new venture but has to be involved with cars. in the process of becoming a knight in shining armour when people break down. working as an AA man. i also work as a scrutineer at race meetings and behind the scenes from time to time for a tv company on the spanners when motors are involved.

Can also take the head off a cow in about 20 seconds and remove the brain stem :D We use 2 of these (Soon to be 3) For rendering, But Apart from the fallen stock that come in where we use a forklift with a spike, We have a constant feed system using Augers not loaders... Lovely video!!! Seems to take a little to long to blend the animal. What exactly is that machine used for bar the obvious? Where do the remains end up? Is that for waste animals or is that actually what ends up on your plate?

Lol, Nothing ends up on the plate don't worry. :) From that machine it goes through a magnet, Then through another "crusher" to get everything down to about 50mm. Then it's cooked for a couple of hours in a rotor disc steam cooker. Then it's all pressed and the solids go up to Wymington where they get incinerated, And the oils get cleaned and loaded up (My main job) Onto tankers where they mostly end up in Scotland and turned into Biofuel. We currently run our 2 boilers on gas, But when the prices go up again we use the Tallow as fuel for ourselves. There is also a power plant in Belgium that buys it for fuel. Goes through animals quite quick really. When we're flat out with no problems anywhere we can get through roughly 18 ton an hour, 24 hours a day, 6 days a week.

im a self employed class 1 driver/adr/hiad/etc etc .i work for anybody who pays the most money doing anything they need me to do .i will drive a wheel barrow round the yard if they pay me lol,also im a mechanic rtitb trained and also worked in high secure nurse/warden in physic hospitals after i came out of the army

I run my own fabric business, which was going really well until I had the stroke in July. Since that we have had to slow things down as I can't keep up the pace. Right arm is still numb. But we are getting a few thing done, like insulating the shed so I can use it in the winter. But I still can't drive, so Mrs PA is having to do a lot more than she should be.

I still have the same job working for FRF Volvo as many of you know, but now I spend ALL my working time (and it certainly seems to creep into some of my personal time too) supplying mail order parts to internet customers. I actually do miss getting out and about, these days I do not see the light of day, but I still enjoy doing what I do. Simon :)
