Yello, Interesting discussion about the ups and downs of dodgy private plates in this thread: http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9501 All I can say is Jod I dont know how you managed to have ur plates like you have :) ive been pulled by 3 volvo cop cars and a motorbike (all at once) and today by an undercover cop bike! (didn't even know these existed, near enough impossible to spot!!). Ive had my plates on for a couple of weeks :( So goin to have to get some more plates in a different layout made to make them more legal. To be honest I cant really see the big problem with mine... ive seen much much worse, saw one the other day with a font that you cant even read! looked like fekin japanese! So anyone else thinkin bout changin there plates... just be wary! ive heard there cracking down on dodgy plates as well, as these apr cameras (automatic plate recognition cameras?) need to be able to read the plate easily.

As been said before on this subject its just a matter of time to get caught, maybe fined and if its personlised plate get it threatened that the DVLA can confiscate it... Best thing is keep it legal, legal letters, legal spacing and legal border then we dont need to worry... You started this thread as well>>> http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9501

How long before a member of the public challenges DVLA - they seem to love selling plates, have you seen how the "better" ones are either expensive on their official site or sent for auction. The "cop out" statement about illegal spacing, etc IMO is not sufficient, especially when the DVLA sell "prized plates". A few years ago there was choice of multiple fonts - think there is only 1 option today. This change is for number plate recognition purposes. If I was more cynical: DVLA have been selling plates for years and when the inevitable "crackdown" comes - the cash registers will start to ring. I have a couple of private plates, for over 10 years. Spacing is on the limit and in correct font. Have been complimented by Traffic Cop in the past. However, only "hassled" once - driving down road, marked Range Rover TC coming toward me, suddenly blues & twos plus headlights, straight in front of me, across the white line, signalled to pull over (as if I had any choice), after 5 minutes of "yes officer, no officer" off I went. The irony is that the the plate on this particular car spells my name and he had the cheek to say "can I take it that your name is ......." Sorry about the rant - but really bad plates should be targetted as are difficult to read in the evident of a Road Traffic Accident.

Put it this way, if some numpty smashed into the back of you and then drove off but you managed to get his reg number you'd feel like at least you will get some justice - only then to find that there is no such registration number and no way of tracking the culprit down. Personally I'd be PI**ED!!!! And all because his/her plate read something different to what it is actually supposed to read x

Like I said some plates out there are just silly like the ones you cant even read. However mine in my opinion is more readable than it was as standard! Sorta makes more sense so I guess people should be able to remeber it better. Font is standard. Whats this about "prized plates" T5R+ ?

Stupid fonts can go though

Like they haven't got enough to do already without "being sherlock holmes for number plates" The rest of us can abide by the law why do the select few think they are above it? I'd love my reg to say MrsMopp for instance but there is no way that can be done legally so I settle for something else. x

I "adapted" mine, I think a few bits of tape and some careful positioning of screw caps seems to have done the job rather well. Image It was originally MATT T5R

1) As a start point for the rules http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regmarks/reg_marks.htm 2) Prized or Auction plate example http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/home/en/Search/p/newstyle?searched=yes&prefix1=&prefix2=&numbers=51&letter1=M&letter2=O&letter3=N&pricefrom=&priceto=&x=38&y=17 3) Imaginative people could make this Mrs Mop. Ask why the plates (MR51 and MS51) command a premium. And check out the "asian name" at £1599! http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/home/en/Search/p/newstyle?searched=yes&prefix1=&prefix2=&numbers=51&letter1=M&letter2=O&letter3=P&pricefrom=&priceto=&x=63&y=10&start=260
