Hey all,
Well the gf and I have decided to go camping in Newquay in a couple of weeks. We prefer the luxuries of a hotel but just too skint so were goin to try camping for the first time. Going to borrow a 6man tent of my sister, lol I think that will be big enough! Anyone else been camping before and got any useful hints or things to be aware of?
Worked my petrol bill out roughly and im going to be spending over £150 in go go juice :( my gf (who works at Going Places) turned round the other day and said we could go to greece for the week and it wouldn't cost half as much! UK is soooo expensive!
So going to buy lots of beans and bread and stuff like that to keep cost down! :D Cant wait for the surfing!!! Newquay, best place there is!

me and the misses (and usually a large crowd of like minded people) go camping a good few times a year, to the various shows. we dont go for long, maximum of 2 or 3 nights at a time, so travel fairly light, but will reccomend an air bed as an essential item, along with a 12v pump to go with it. also a hammer/mallet comes in very handy if the ground is very hard too. dont forget the camping chairs either (the ones you get from supermarkets are awesome, they are about £7 or so, and fold up, and have a handy can/bottle holder in the arms lol).

If you're camping in Newquay, check out a site called 'Trevornick', it's ace! I've stayed there loads, v clean, no loons, close to a top beach (used in the opening sequence of 007 The world is not enough).
Good luck fella!

Take an air matress, your duvet and some pillows. Fantastic!
Just remember noise travels really well through nylon fly sheets lol

yes, air matress, duvet, essential to have a torch....refillable waterbottle for campsite, cups, chairs if you have room, if not a picnic blanket or groundsheet to sit on, remember as it gets cooler at night it also gets a bit damper so warm clothes, wellies just in case, gas camping burner, plates, knifes forks, easy cook pasta, pasta sauces, UHT milk, tea bags, coffee, dried milk (if you dont fancy UHT) , hats for night time warmth, plate scrubber, loo roll, ...cant think of anyhting else at the mo.....

thinking of it, the cookers some of the people had with them last time we went looked like the way to go. usually i take a few disposable bbq's but this time i saw some people had cookers like this: (random google image btw)
(colour was different, but general design was the same)
my mate paid £20 for the cooker, which included 4 gas bottles with it, not bad really, should last you for the week? and its fairly compact too. dont forget to take some plastic camping plates and cups, very cheap in Tesco's/asda

what he said... food you can buy there, no need to pack - the rest you can easily get in a c70 :) airbed's essential, a blanket/rug is a good alternative to chairs :) have fun!
