went out for a fill up and it appears that my 2 local shell stations, (kings heath and, northfield) in birmingham, have totally ran out of optimax. have had to use BP ultimate 97ron ***** @104.9 per litre from the cotteridge station. this is not good as on the inside of my T4's petrol flap in big green letters it says USE 98RON FUEL ONLY, how are T4 owners supposed to survive!!!!!!! Any body else had trouble finding optimax recently?

Didn't know that the T4's had to run 98ron. My S40 (2000)(fair play its not the t4) but that only requires above 92. Currently using Esso's supreme 97ron at about 98p per litre, Optimax near me is £1.02/3 so for the moment happy with the Esso.
It should run just fine on that, even if it has been chipped, the MON is about the same, that's the main thing. If you are really worried it may be a good idea to purchase a small tub of fuel octane booster and keep it in the boot. http://www.carbibles.com/fuel_engine_bible.html
my 2001 phase 2 t4 only got normal unleaded and never missed a beat it does have a minimum rating on the cap and its within the normal unleaded range of 96 ron every manufacturer recommends optimax but there not paying for it and to tell the truth imoa its not worth the extra. even when chipped my car was just as good on normal fuel,in imoa t4s are quick enough anyway, i couldnt drive it no faster with 235bhp because i just couldnt get it down on the road serious traction problem great fun though to spin the wheels at 70 mph in the rain etc.
ive been considering buying some octane booster for emergencies like this 1, and yeah the t4 says 98RON on the inside of the fuel filler flap, i like to keep it on the right fuel so that nothing gets clogged up, have read on other forums that the fuel filters get clogged really quickly and they start playing up, how true this is i will naver know as it hasnt happened to me, so i think that prevention is deffo better than cure
doesnt matter which fuel you use its got no affects from one fuel to the other on the fuel filters or internals all fuels come with the same amount of detergents etc to keep the system clean. yes as advised you can always bob some redex in but i find the car starts to get addicted to it and youll need to book it in to kate moss centre lol.

The cap on my T4 (98) says, Recomended 98 Ron, Min 95. But mine always gets tesco 99.

yeah thats me pinchin the fuel at £50 a tank! if there is ever any there to put in the tank that is, this station seems to always be runnin out of the stuff
blimey thats expensive up north, just paid 95.9p at sainsburys in Eastbourne for superunleaded and now back in London and the cheapest here according to petrolprices.com is 93.9p in Chalk farm, about 3 miles from me try my postcode at petrolprices.com.. W11 1BD you lot are deffo being stiffed....
i'd guess it will be fine on 95 but optimised for 98, no tesco 99 local?
i have heard there is one Tesco in south wales (in cardiff) that sells the 99RON, but its too far for me to go to get it, would take a fair bit to simply get there and back lol
