Hey, my friend Kevin pointed me over to this site. I'm one of the moderators on Volvospeed.com, and I have a mostly stock '96 850R wagon with a newly-swapped 5-speed.

Where abouts?

Post 10686 by Goof on 2005-03-26 11:51:45

San Francisco for 3 nights, touring ~ Yosemite, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, etc, San Diego, then Los Angeles for last 3 nights. 3 weeks in all - 28/05 to 18/06.

Sounds like fun, you will love it! Dont forget to go to Napa and visit Robert Mondavi. Excellent place  And of course you HAVE to go to Disneyland. If you get chance go to Six Flags. X is the most amazing thing on earth. Go to the stratosphere tower in Vegas and try the rides on the top. Still having nightmares :yikes:

SF and LA have quite a bit to do/see, San Diego slightly less so, and Yosemite/ Grand Canyon and the like are absolutely amazing. Are you going on your own or as part of a tour?

Not a package - sorted all via the www independantly. Similar route tours were only 2 weeks - seemed a bit too much for the family (Mrs Goof, master Goofs aged 6 and 11). A bit more leisurely instead of being in a rush! If you're thinking of something similar, I don't mind emailing you with tips / costs / etc...

I grew up in Los Angeles, and now I'm spread all along the California coast, from just north of San Fransisco to the Mexican border. I go to Yosemite and the like as often as I can, I love to backpack. Come to think of it, if you need suggestions, I'm probably the one to ask ;) I don't know too much about San Fran in terms of tourist stuff (I'm usually there on business, sadly), but I know some great spots in Yosemite Park and all over California. Come to think of it, the pic I normally post up of my car was taken in Yosemite Valley! Image You can kinda see Half-Dome in the background, the picture was taken in a parking lot that you hit right as you exit the tunnel into Yosemite Valley. It's absolutely breaktaking at sunrise.

Great Pic there mate. BTW :wavey: - and welcome. No roof spoiler? (SHOCK, GASP, HORROR) If we only had the Californian sunshine. - sigh. Enjoy the forum.

Enjoy the forum.
Looks naked without that spoiler... I keep meaning to get one, and keep sinking money into performance stuff instead. Soon, I will. And I wish we had the California sunshine too :p It seems like it's been all rain this winter -- which is good, looking at the big picture, but not my style. Doesn't help that I live on the coast.

Sadly I can only do Welsh Mountains and English Countryside http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/galleries/new_pics_for_2005.htm It is odd that an 850R would be spec-ed without the spoiler. I don't really know if it has any great affect interms of helping the rear stick to the road. I am curious to know why you felt the need to increase or change the IC. Isnt the stock one up to the job? I hear that many car sites recommend grabbing one for there own cars based on the sheer size of the things?
San Francisco for 3 nights, touring ~ Yosemite, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, etc, San Diego, then Los Angeles for last 3 nights. 3 weeks in all - 28/05 to 18/06.
I came back yesterday from doing the exact same trip - except in reverse. LA > San Diego > Las Vegas > Bryce/Zion/Grand Canyons > Vegas again > Yosemite > San Francisco. Cruise control-tastic. Don't make the same mistake I did by going to Vegas at the weekend without a hotel room. You will have no chance! Got there at 10pm after 400 miles to find not a single vacancy within 100 miles! So it was on the road again. Saw plenty of Volvos - many more saloons than estates, and they have a rather alarming preference for buying European cars in white.
