Finally got my car back Friday ( Thanks Mr Pengally!!)...but that's another story. Anyway, keen to have a relaxing cruise up the M1 ( doing about 75 in the inside lane), I see an Impretza WRX STI coming up quick in the middle lane and a peugeot 106 in the outside lane. Can't resist, so I speed up and its 106, Impretza and me in the outside lane. The 106 is held up for a mo, then it clears and me thinks I can now play with the STI as we trounce the 106....err not quite! The little mite stays with us....blimey it could move. Up at silly speeds, it starts to fall away ( or back off, I'm not sure!), but he sure gave us a run for our money. I believe I had the edge on him, particulary as we increased to even higher speeds, but it can't have been stock - no big zorst though, and I assume it was a GTI, but no badges or body kit. Anyway, we keep swapping leader place and I am struck by: 1) I can stay pace with the Impretza...I'm very pleased, not sure he was! 2) What the hell was that 106 running ??? Anyway, the Impretza turned off and we had fun for another junction until we came off. Mr 106 came alongside and I gave him the thumbs up...he seemed to genuinely appreciate it! I did notice some kind of tuning website sticker on his car, so he'd definately had something done to it.... Hats off Mr 106, that's the kind of car I like - doesn't look much but it goes! Clearly spent the money in the right places instead of on silly skirts and spoilers.. My car still makes me smile....shame its for sale ( see For sale area!) P.S. just read Adam's post.....what has been going on ? I don't know, I don't post for a couple of months and the love goes! Don't worry all, I'm back....just kiss and it will all be better. P.P.S I have used VT many times and I think they are great. If I didn't like them, I would not go again, 'cos I'm old enough to decide for myself. Just thought I'd add that, but I love you all...

different engine, turbo'd or nos i recon, the pugs are fairly nippy off the mark and ok thru the twisties but they dont usually have much pull once speeds get naughty mate. unless theres a super duper jobby i havent heard about !!! 1.6 gti only has 120 horses bud and as we all know.... it costs big bucks to get lots more power from an N/A engine. nice to see the scabby didnt have it all its own way, cos they normally expect to leave everything.

I have spent plenty of time in a 106 GTI. Standard the car will keep up with a T5 to around 80. They can still do 140mph on the flat. I would imagine it had, had a couple of tweaks though - but a charged / turbo or throttle bodied version is 180+ bhp or 6 second 0-60, low 14's [some high 13's 1/4 mile] and should hit 150 ish - so you would know it if was one of those. So my guess is it could have cam, exhaust, and filter - circa 140 /145 hp but 5k-7250 rpm they are pretty damn spicy. But it is still a 1.6, which is mighty impressive to keep with a T5 / Scooby. Image Standard car. Nice and subtle, a real favourite of mine :)

Could've had a MI 16 engine in it, and the Scooby, lucky it didn't have blue lights :cop: that might've been a lot of things,

They are renound for a little lift off oversteer, bit once you get the hang of them they are on par with a boxter in the dry. Simply awesome. I used to run a Saxo VTR, and they are that stiff as standard i could park on my humped drive and the rear wheel would hang in the air :D I suggest you try one for size :)

I'm not even sure it was a GTI because it ad none of the badges/bodymods. It looked like a stock 1.4 job very plain, except slightly lowered/stiffened. So I reackon he had dropped another engine in it...the only other factor was that it backfired..when de-celerating...does that indicate a turbo ??

If it was back firing it could be just a de-cat. If it was plain looking i can imagine a engine transplant is favorite. In addition i know people marry up different engine and gearbox combos for different results. Either way, sounds like it was quite a little tool.
