Hello All,
Took me a while to get around to joining, but I'm finally here. I got my S60 2.4T SE a couple of months back and its time for some minor modding... (I really wanted a S60 R or T5 .. but couldn't find the right one)
I used to have an S40 T4 and loved it, but never got around to tinkering with it as I wasted most of my money on an old 944 turbo.
Anyway - just wanted to say hello and ask a couple of questions...
1. (I'm sure this has been asked thousands of times... but here goes) - the ITG panel filter - is it worth while. I've had panel filters before and they didn't make any difference. I had a K&N kit on my last car - sound was unbelievable, but power did drop.
2. Anyone know a good website for alloys ... I need 2 new tyres already (don't you love the joys of torque steer) and my alloys aren't in great condiition.. thought I might see what was out there before investing in some new rubber... thinking about 18" (I'll maybe get some lower springs, or full suspension kit later in the summer)
Cheers, Neal

Hi
Welcome to the forum. I myself have played the victim to an old sports car and their upkeep in my time.
1. I had a ITG filter on my old T5 [currently a Jetex on my Smart] and I think the gist of having a panel filter is to maintain engine power rather than letting it deteriorate as conventional paper filters clog up. It does adjust then engine note slightly, but not intrusive.
2. Alloys are a preference thing. I prefer genuine Volvo products, and would go for 18" R wheels. However if you wanted something different buy a copy of MAX POWER and there are lots of wheels shops advertising deals in there.
Hope that helps.
Andy

Hi Neal, welcome to the site.:wavey:
I have recently fitted an ITG panel filter to my car and I think it's really hard to say if it gives a definate performance advantage, I've thought that about other induction kits etc in the past too:confused:
However it is a suberb quality bit o kit that'll last for a very long time and does sound a lil different when you really open the car up above the 4600rpm barrier:biggrin: ...IMHO.
Hope that helps you make a decision as to whether or not you buy 1.

Mark.

hi there Neal, im not familiar with itg, but am with k+n and jetex and the principal behind panel filters... they allow a better air flow and are re-usable.
better air flow means bigger bang basically and i find it really hard to believe that a panel filter hinderd your performance in any way. it must have been a coincidence or you talked yourself into thinking it was reducing power OR...
your car had probs you were not aware of.
getting an engine to rev faster is mostly about getting air/fuel mixture in as quick as poss, getting it to go bang quickly/efficiently and getting rid of the burned stuff as quick as poss.
panel filters ARE worth the money.
regards wayne.

Panel filters don't gain horsepower but they do prevent you losing it. Paper filters clog over time. Like the Dyson - the replacement panel gives you no loss of suction.
Ultimately the best air filter is no air filter - but seeing as you cant risk injesting rubbish into the engine - replacement panel is the way to go.
I would personally recommend the ITG. It is not expensive and readily available from VT.

thanks for all the replies folks ... I've gone ahead and ordered the filter and a couple of other toys (new wiper blades, rear sunblinds, crome bezel surronds and of course a volvo key ring!! an absolute must!)
Murphy - the last time I brought a copy of MaxPower home wifey went through me for a shortcut she thought it was a copy razzle or somthing.
I found a 'volvo replica' set of 18" aloys with tyres on eBay - but something tells me that when Mr. Volvo charges over 2k for the similar set this guy is selling for 700quid that it may be too much of a bargin - you don't get something for nothing... ah well - no money for alloys at the minute anyway :(
Cheers
