    S70 Remote locking.

    Hi.
Great to have this site up and running again. I was at a loss without it!

The remote locking/unlocking on my S70 has lost its range. I've changed the batteries in the fobs which has made no difference. I now have to be virtually touching the windscreen to get the system to work, but it does work.
I've had the top off the dash and checked the remote sensor on top of the speedo but it's like looking at inards of a transistor radio, nothing obviously broken.
What goes wrong with these things?
    Can it be fixed?
A replacement from Rufe is about £115. What is the cost of reprogramming the fobs any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

I took my car to the dealers yesterday to have the fault codes read to try to find out what the problem is. No fault was shown except a flat battery in the alarm siren which is a separate system. So I still don't know why my remote range is so poor.
Anyway the LED light on the dash is now flashing like mad when the ignition is turned on indicating an alarm fault so I suspect the siren battery is causing that. Furthermore I can't set the alarm off on purpose now either. So:
can the siren battery be replaced?
It's under the nearside wheelarch cover I believe. What sort of job is it to to get at the siren?
Rufe if you read this how much is a new siren please.
    Thanks very much.

Got the same problem with mine, will only work when I'm two feet from the drivers door.

    I'll watch this with interest.

Well I've finally sorted the problem out along with the flat back-up battery in the alarm siren. I've quite literally just put the top of tha dashboard back on after replacing the remote central locking receiver which is located on top of the instrument panel. As an added and totally unexpected bonus the remote fobs work so I can now cancel my appointment at the dealers to have them reprogrammed The range is now approx 20yds instead of 10 inches. I'm well chuffed.
Thanks once again to Rufe for an excellent discount and next day delivery. Cheers mate PM sent.

    Hi
The remote sensor on my 1997 S70 is attached to the top of the instrument panel. You have to take off the top of the dashboard to get at it. 11 Torx screws to undo and it lifts straight off, piece of cake.
If you buy a new unit from Rufe for about £105 you might be lucky and the remote fobs will programme to the new unit as mine did. If you use a second hand unit you will have to have the fobs reprogrammed by a dealer or independent. You may be lucky and manage to get hold of a second hand receiver and fobs from the same car. They will be matched.
Just watch the cost though. I was outbid on a second hand receiver and one fob on Ebay. It went for £78. It's £20 for a receiver from Salvo but they always put their fobs on Ebay.
    Cheers.
