Not long after I got it back from Tim, I noticed a small drip of fluid under the car, plus the air con had packed up again. I took it to my local specialist (Just Volvo, highly recommended), and he diagnosed that the air con compressor was shot and was fairly convinced that what I saw was the oil from the air con system (it had stopped leaving any fluid by this time). So I booked it in with him along with a couple of other bits.

    - New Air Con compressor, Volvo seals & regas (again!!)

    - I had new idler pulleys, which he recommended I did as mine were a bit noisy

    - A new style reverse light switch, as my reverse lights had stopped working

    - Also he put new seals on the oil cooler, as they were weeping slightly

    - Fresh oil

It then went off to the valeters, which conveniently is next door! And these are some snaps I took yesterday evening:

Magic fella. Well done on turning a bit of a shagnacker (albeit a rare one) into a real head turner. Brilliant. Plus I expect it goes like ££££e off a shovel. Love the attention to detail - although I bet Tim had a few choice words for the painter after having to rub back that overs spray lol.

I cannot take credit for it, looking back it's quite funny to think that on a lot of bits we didn't agree on but in the end one of us backed down (usually the one that didn't have the car at the time...).

Chris wanted a black grill and I wanted a standard grill, 1-0.

Chris wanted it slammed and I wanted a subtle drop, 2-0.

Chris wanted the 7 pages of defects ALL sorting, I wanted him to buy another car to start with, 2-1.

Some of you might of noticed that when Chris sets his mind to something he has incredible dedication to it, I took a lot more convincing, after a couple of weeks work on it I was still not convinced. Even this wouldn't put Chris off, it wasn't until I could start a job on it without generating more and more work that it became enjoyable.

I remember picking the car up from a Grantham meet and we had already worked out a very comprehensive list of what it ought to have, oh how the car had changed since I saw it 4 years previously lol. The pub car park highlighted about another week's work. Some I still don't understand, the intercooler bypass pipe WTF! The speeds that wouldn't reach 88MPH (fully floating ABS rings). The in car smoke machine that filled the cabin when the heater was on, I even too a video of that. When I got back and plugged in the Volvo System Tester, it came up with 10 ABS codes, 10 is the most it can read and you cannot clear any until they are all read.

Chris as I said before I'm glad you didn't listen to me, not one bit, not at all. You now have a beautiful car you are proud of. 2 all lol.

Looks fantastic, only thing I'd change is the wheels would look better in their original dark colour. As for Chris's dedication Tim, he just handed you a blank cheque and said sort it, he just gets to drive the beauty lol.

What's the problem with that? Seems pretty dedicated to me:

Find someone who can do the work to an exacting standard then fund it, no expense spared.

Seems like a much better plan than some have.

The wheel colour is a matter of opinion. A darker colour wouldn't look better IN MY OPINION, and it's my car. And how the hell do you know what the original colour of the wheels were? Anthracite has been done to death, and part of the aim was keeping the car bright, giving it a fresh appearance, especially for a 20 year old car.

What an absolute load of bo!!ocks. I've already had one ignorant pr!ck with that same underhanded comment on this thread. But coming from you Mike, that has really pissed me off. I have put a massive amount of time and effort into this car, sourcing parts, getting parts made, cleaning, replacing what I am capable of, ideas, suggestions, knowing what I want from the car, to the standard I want, the car looks the way it does because of me, No I didn't paint the body work, No I didn't fit the new bumpers, No I didn't weld the new tailpipe on the Miltek catback, but it's all there because of me. It's been a 3 year journey that has taken a lot of time and effort (and yes a lot of money) from both myself, Tim, and several other traders along the way, and it's been a labour of love for all involved, that has taken a wreck of a car to possibly one the best 850's in the country and one that I absolutely love and enjoy every time I get in it. Because I'm an enthusiast. Unless the day comes when I need the cash, this car will be going nowhere, ever. To try and belittle how much effort I've put in, in the last 3 years is simply c!!ntish.

Blank cheque.... F!!ck off you ignorant tosser.

Just to say also, the project is by no means "finished"!

I'm constantly looking out for what can be improved/replaced/made better.

Already looking at options to tidy up the cam cover and inlet manifold, as it's the only detail that lets the engine bay down now.

It most likely will be going over to a Motronic 4.4 ECU when ever it makes it's next journey to Tims.

And he has been getting some great results with clipping the turbine blade on the 19t's with small gains in peak power, but the most impressive result is how it holds the power to the red line, rather than tailing off as my standard 19t does. Or I may well even go down the GT3076r route at some stage, time will tell.

Also, purely for asthetics, I want to find some AP calipers that will fit under the Volans on the rear.

    There's still plenty to do!

Wind your neck in Chris. I've only ever had respect for you and all of your cars. This car is a beauty as I said. The LOL on the end of the you just signed the cheques comment was a tongue in cheek comment and as you know me, I would of expected you take it as such. As for replying with ignorant £££££ and ££££, well if that is how you feel about me, I'll say no more.

I considered it, but I think having the lock there in case the remote fob fails just seemed more sensible. But your right, in that it's the finer small details like that, that seem to make all the difference. Thanks for the offer though.
