im a very confused T5 owner

Hi everyone not sure if this is the right section to post in but will give it a go
this is my first turbo car and Ive been doing my best but Ive now hit a wall im so confused don't know what to do now.
ive fitted a mbc (manuel boost controller) not sure if i have done it wright though i really need a very idiot proof guide on what hoses to plumb it to?
also i have fitted a boost gauge to see what im pushing not sure if ive putting it on the wrong line. the first time i used it, it was boosting to 12psi now it reads a top of 7
also if i fit a bov do i have to remove the original waste gate from the turbo
thats all for now any advice would be much appreciated
    thanks

It's true - he struggles making the tea

I'll leave the plumbing of the earlier engines to someone else but one thing I will say is don't confuse the wastegate with a recirculating valve, they're very different things.
You'll need to remove and blank the recirc valve to fit a BOV. The MBC works by delaying the reaction of the wastegate.

I think Pedro's is the one with a nice PDF diagram showing the pipe colours in the right orientation.

If not have a google search. I think it popped up the last time I did it.

I don't know if this will work:

What car is it mate? Year & model? Even though they're all called t5's they do have considerable differences. Some like having dump valves, some don't.

I really need to find the zoom on my phone...
In that case you need a blanking plate to block off your standard re-circ before you can entertain a blow off valve/dump valve/Chav valve or whatever else you want to call it. You will need a twin piston dv though as they ain't fans of single piston.
As for your boost gauge I've ran mine from the pipe that I lost when I removed the standard re-circ. your wastegate is what opens & closes to hold boost, if you blank off the re-circ & don't have a dump valve it will make some lovely chatter whoosh noises.

Vac line from the Turbos compressor housing goes to the bottom Line of the MBC, the vac line from the turbo actuatorwhich opens and closes the wastegate goes to the top/side of the MBC, Keep the Standard bcs pluged in or it will throw a engine light.

Boost gauge wise, put a t piece in the one under the dash which runs to the standard in car gauge thats easy to get at and take that vac line to ur new gauge.

BOV valve, run a vac line off the vac tree on the intake manifold to the valve and fit a blanking plate to the turbo. You can run with both but it sounds ££££

    This advise is applieson pre me7 s70 v70/ 850 turbo'd cars NOT me7

    Hope the above helps

so I should leave the waste-gate on but remove the re-cerc valve, but where is the re-cerc valve
also if I just fit an a mbc then open it as much as possible roughly what psi should I get?

The wastegate is something that can't be removed from the turbo, it allows exhaust gasses to bypass the turbo, thus preventing overboost.

The recirc is attached to the side of the cold side of the turbo, you can see it from above. it has a 30mm round turret sort of thing with a 4mm hose connection coming out of it. 3 x 10mm bolts hold it on.

DO NOT just open a bleed valve all the way! you'll bend a rod

If the car isn't mapped, you'll only be able to run about 10-14 psi before you get "boost cut" which is the ECU protecting the engine from overboost. You'll know when you hit boost cut because you'll leave dental records in the steering wheel.

Just check which way opens or closes the mbc, the mbc's i've had, anti-clockwise reduces boost and clockwise increases, just make sure before fully going one way...

yeah I have made sure that I am winding it the right way its a turbo smart mbc and has the markings to show what way. I found whats causing it to under boost and turns out I had a split hose
and thanks mrp makes abit more sence now also do you know what these turbo and intercoller are capable of boosting too?

On a standard setup with a remap and MBC, you might see 16 - 18psi (I think) but you'll find the turbo may not last. You'll risk bending a rod if you hit high boost before 3-3500 rpm too.
