My 'new' V70 has been doing great into our second year flew thru the MOT with no advisories and runs like a Swiss watch. I changed the oil and filters two day ago and noticed a strong smell of raw Diesel under the bonnet? I lifted off the engine cover and sure enough, across the top of the cylinder head was a pool of fresh diesel! I mopped it up and went for a spin and checked again when i returned home and it was back so a clear leak.
Ran the engine for a while and checked with a torch but unable to see WHERE the leak is. Obviously an injector due to its location but not even a drip when running under pressure. My only suspicion was the usual grime around all the injectors except pot 4. But close examination with a magnifier and still no obvious signs. So I had to leave it for 4 days as my night duty shift was starting the next day, decided to have a look on my rest days. My colleague at work with a Beemer said he had exactly the same and it was the injector seal, he bought some sort of tool to clean the seats - fitted new seal all good.
BUT
This brings me the second part of the problem, tonight on my way to work I had to overtake sharpish to avoid a 'BANK HOLIDAY MUPPET' with a pink hair rinse about 80 - who probably only drives a few times a year straight off the slip road into lane 2 doing about 40 MPH ! I accelerated and I picked up speed, but as I got into the next lane I lost most of my power!
I managed to get back to the nearside lane expecting limp mode/ warning stop engine or other lights and to head for the shoulder - but all I got was 'ENGINE SERVICE REQUIRED' lit up on the DIMS. I cleared this and it didnt appear again, I was about a mile from work so took it easy but I decided to see if I WAS in limp mode, accelerated and she picked up speed but SLOWLY. Trying different throttle settings she seemed 'back to normal' but I noticed a slight hunt in revs when I stopped at traffic lights? Felt initially that I had lost boost but not ONE warning light came on? I did notice last night through my right foot 'something not right' like uneven firing?
Could this be that the leaking cylinder has thrown up a compression fault on the guilty cylinder/injector which spiked the ECU momentarily? Or something else. Sadly my VIDA laptop seems to have seen better days so I have no fault analyser now. Over to you knowledgeable experts
(someone sent me a link to the latest EOBD2 BLUETOOTH a year or so back -but sadly I lost that link. If it was you please send me a link). I bought a cheap chinky one today but unsure how good it will be
