Today has been a good day, but I'll start at the beginning 2 months ago.....
Possibly one of the best saloon 850R's in Europe maybe even the world came up for sale , unfortunately it was poorly from a lack of compression, after following the build thread on here for many years and knowing the owner along with drooling every time I saw it in the flesh I knew I had to at least enquire of the price.
After a few text over a coffee break I had decided that despite its broken engine I had to buy it.
A deal was made, and I collected it at the earliest opportunity (on a trailer) the 3 hour ride flew by with excitement.
The car had been locked away in a garage for nearly 18 months feeling sorry for itself but on a battery charger so when I got ther it started straight away all be it sounding very rough, loaded onto the trailer quickly and I proceeded home knowing the owner was crying into his coffee (that bit might not be true, but I would have been if it was me)
Once home I unloaded it onto a ramp and after a few weeks of looking and smiling the decision was made to strat an engine rebuild.
A strip down revealed that the rings that had done approx 1000 mile since its last build needed replacing along with every other gasket and bolts. New rings were sourced from USA from CP pistons and after an amazing 3 days the rebuild began.
It was all bolted together and tested and now is running like silent dream (touch wood)
After a few slow laps of the farm to make sure nothing leaked a MOT was booked and today it passed with flying colours.
I've just drove it home 47 miles at a steady 65/70mph trying not to go over 2500 rpm and it made it without drama.
So that is why today has been a good day. I now have probably a top 3 saloon and as you all know I already own the best estate
So I would like to thank the previous owner Andy for doing a fantastic job of looking after it for many years and I'm sorry that you had to let it go. I promise I will look after it as much as you did or at least try.
