    Cool ECU Upgrade

Death has taken his time evaluating and looking at what was available for improving the performance of his S70R Auto. The tyres Pirelli P0’s and R suspension are nothing special but ok for a heavy weight 1998my FWD performance saloon, so the Volvo front strut brace, engine stabiliser poly bush and JR air filter were the first addition and changes made.

The ECU mapping was something else though. There are four (spooky again lol) well known tuners offering mapping for basic Volvo road cars, word of mouth, price and the personal touch are important so I decided to concentrate on RICA and TME. I was looking for something that would give me improved power but also smooth changes from 1st up to 2nd, then 3rd (lock up) and finally 4th (lock up).

Having tried the base products from both tuners in and out of the R, I decided on a TME map. Thanks must go to VT and TME for making this possible because without them I would have had no choice to make.

What Death chose may not suit everybody and on a final note I have no idea what BHP/Torque figures the old girl now produces suffice to say IMHO it’s a nippy motor mate.

Your car was pretty damn nippy as standard, possibly the best engine for it's age I've seen, so it must fly now. I want a go next time we meet.

I may have squashed his seat - but he left a brown stain on my passenger side.

Engineer, what were your reasons for going for TME over RICA? Could you tell me what the characteristics of each are?
