On the offchance that someone has one laying about or knows off the top of their head. how long is the t5 block? and then how long is the gearbox.
I have some silly ideas swimming around my head at the minute.
Cheers

Off the top of my head the block is about 512mm and an M66 is 354mm the crank pulley sticks out 89mm.
Thanks, engine is long! Gearbox seems short though.
Is it cable selector on top? I cant remember.
EDIT, yes is is, ive just seen,
Ive got 2 clios begging for new engines

Well 1 is audi tt bound, the other is mine to play with. And I miss my volvo (most importantly the engine) T4 is always an option, but its not a T5
Ill give a measure later. Chassis rails may need notching aswell. Im hoping that short gearbox size will aid me.
I think it will fit.

from what I read recently, there is a smaller manual gearbox that appears to have been fitted to a T6 lump to allow it to fit in some small spaces (s80 iirc), Ettienne has one of these boxes but I think they may be a bit rare over here, but they exsist

I think the gearbox will be the least of my problems to begin with. Im struggling to find how the engine is mounted. I know theres a steady ontop, is there one front and centre of the engine and one on the gearbox?
Also the height of the engine may be an issue.

Id like it in the front, rear mounting would probably be beyond me and my small workshop tbh. I know its big, and im now considering a t4, i just know ill regret not having the 5 cylinder noise.
The rear and the front mounts look doable, that side one though, I highly doubt there will be room for that.
Ok, ive come to the conclusion that when all ancillaries are bolted on there will not be enough room.
T4 however is highly likely to fit.
I think ill have to start looking for a v/s40 to use.
Does anyone here have one of the above? or know the rough dimensions of that with parts bolted up.
I know this is a silly thread, but id like to build this.
is an rnc platform engine out of a focus st or later s40 t5 not slightly smaller
What do you mean?
the 2.5l engine in the focus st is a Volvo 5 pot that was also used in the s/v40 t5 I think between 2003-2008.
With the introduction of the second generation Volvo S40 in 2003 another update to the engine family took place. The new engine was called 'RNC',[36] the 'C' standing for 'compact' to emphasise the decrease in overall dimensions. Compared to the previous generation the new engine was 200mm slimmer[nb 1] and 25mm shorter. On turbocharged engines the exhaust manifold and turbinehousing were now combined into one part; all engines were equipped with plastic intake manifolds and continously variable vavle timing (CVVT).
The 'RN' engines remained in production alongside the 'RNC' engines and were slowly phased out, beginning with the introduction of the second generation Volvo S80 in 2006.
Interesting. however that may be out my budget. I can seem to get t4'2 with entire cars attached (everything i need in a package) pretty easily., I dont think i will be able to afford the newer ones.
