Angry Another Knocking V70 Front End, Advice Please.

This front suspension is driving me nuts. I know there has been loads of posts about the knocking P2 front ends but I have replaced most of the front suspension on my V70, the list is as follows.

    New Shock Absorbers all round
New Meyle HD Droplinks all round
New Meyle HD Lower Control Arms
New Meyle HD Outer Tie Rods
New Meyle HD Inner Tie Roads
New Meyle HD Lower Ball Joints
New Volvo Spring Seats and Top Beering Mounts
I have also fitted Sponge’s subframe bush inserts and fitted new top engine mount and the front engine / gearbox mount.

The only things that I can think of on the front end that I have not replaced as yet but planning to do so very soon is the front springs and the anti-roll bar clamp bushes which I have the kit for from Parts for Volvos. I know that the originals are moulded to the arb.
This is my question if anyone can help me with this, the car has developed a knocking / thud sound going over small bumps in the road and coming off of speed ramps, etc, when the ARB clamp bushes are worn do you get that kind of sound from them. Like I said above this is driving me nuts, it went for MOT a couple of weeks ago and it passed with flying colours, bloody should do really as it is virtually new underneath, lol. The original bushes looked a little perished but the tester put a pry bar on there and said it all looked fine.
Any help on this would be great.
    Thanks

Seeing as you've changed just about everything else, it would seem to point to the ARB bushes.

I am thinking that it has to be this Stribo but was just wondering if anyone had experienced this noise and if changing these bushes cured it, you know how it is though when you've spent a load of money and then you get a new noise, it's a tad frustrating, lol.

Just a quick update really, I have had the front arb bushes replaced thanks to Shemtek Racing who did them for me and all seemed well. Shem noticed that the small bush on the gearbox mount was on its way out so I have replaced this but the knocking has come back, really getting frustrated at this now.

Not the exhaust tapping on something is it?

Get under the middle of the car and wrench the pipe in all directions - hard. If it's hitting something, you'll hear it.

I'll check it out tomorrow and have a look, I'm wondering if maybe one of the other parts may have failed even though they are fairly new. I'll report back.

Just because they are new, doesn't mean they are ok!!

I gotta say the video is pretty useless as its just sound and no picture. It could be absolutely anything and sounds like a rattle rather than a knock to me.

You need to get the car on shaker plates to properly check all the bushes and links etc.
Also, take absolutely everything out the car that isn't strapped or bolted down, including the glove box. Then you can eliminate the noise further. Have a passenger in the car with you who can rummage around while your driving. Try to avoid main roads thou for obvious reasons.

Well as long as it is not pouring with rain I will try and get under it tomorrow and try the exhaust firstly.

Well today I took off the top not on the strut tops so that I could investigate the top of the spring seat mounts as reading elsewhere it seems the rubber/metal spring seats are a common failure on these cars. Well when I took the top nut off and took off the rubber washer on both sides I found that the cross nuts on both side were undone but approx 5mm and the mounts are definitely torn so I have ordered a set of the original XC90 seats from FRF.

Let's see if this cures my knocking front end.

Ok just a quick update I changed the top spring mounts today for original volvo XC90 ones and all the knocks seemed to have gone now! Will have to give it a good run and see how it is but now I'm feeling happy.

Yeah, that should cure it, unusual for the cross nut to come undone.

Yeah I thought so too but they had come undone on both sides. They were done last year by a garage that did a number of jobs that I have had to redo myself like my bottom arms, the guy had put the bushes in the wrong way round so after about 200 miles the car was wandering all over the place as the bush had worked its way out, very scary!

If I can't do things myself in future then I'll get Shem to do it for me.
    Lesson learnt.

The guy used to have a really good reputation and believe it or not builds drag cars but I have had to redo so many jobs on the volvo, my delica and also my peugeot.
I wouldn't trust this other guy to top up the washer fluid after what I have found on my car, lol.
