Did I read somewhere that you thought the noise was from the top of the engine ?

The only brg that would allow that much play would be the gudgeon pin brg.

Sorry to see that Dave ide lean towards the gudgen pin to allow that sort of movement if you take the sump of it will be much better to see and then you will be able to remove the rod and piston aswell

The pin on those wiseco pistons is inserted & held in place with a sirclip. Spoke to motorcast (the peeps that helped me build it) and they will collect the head & test it. They also suggested I take all 5 pistons out - so we can inspect them all.

Depends what is wrong & more importantly why it went wrong. I think there will be a bit of both this time.

ATM the head is being collected by motorcast tomorrow. Once the sump is off - not sure if I'll do it today or tomorrow then I will make a firm decision which way to go.

I've never really been a polish it & admire it BKV kinda person. I like to do things properly which is why I am bitterly disappointed with only a 4 month run of this engine.

It feels like the gearbox saga all over again.

Keep at it Dave, it'll come good. I know many a bloke who's had an engine go & that's not just through abuse or in regard of who built it. This thing will be a monster at its full potential.

Sorry to hear of your troubles Dave. If you have the finances to carry on and fix it I defintely would!

When my RS turbo press fit gudgeon pin came loose it tapped like crazy and wore a huge 1.5mm deep line into the side of the bore!

Yeah the gudgeon pins are a push fit and held in place by a snap ring but the brg on the end of the con rod is a bronze brg,

If this brg is aloud to run dry it will wear and cause a rattling noise when the engine is running.

There is evidence of some piston slap - I looked again at the bottom of the cyl. head on #2 - if you look carefully at the 2 edges of the piston crown & the sides of the valve recess there are matching shiny bits.

My next door neighbour is a mechanic & I showed him - it was something I had not initially spotted.

He is of an opinion that the cap bolts have some how come loose.
