Welcome to the forum, unfortunately I don't think you will be able to do much with a 1.8 C30

1.8 is a difficult one. Volvo's usually get good gains initially with little modification due to being turbo charged.
Handling and styling modifications are likely to fit across all C30's but performance I think you're stuck. (Other than the usual stage 0 stuff to try and ensure you're getting factory power).
Depending on how much performance you are looking for you may be better trading in for a turbo petrol model or one of the diesel models.

performance doesn't always include bhp - people get stuck chasing rolling road figures!
How about improving the handling? say stiffer anti-roll bars from IPD, a bilstein suspension kit, 320mm rotor upgrades from a D5 or T5, strut bar, etc etc... all will help you put the power you have down and through the corner.

Come on peeps, chill. Volvo enthusiast is just that surly, as for the performance mods yes sure handling and braking does matter. Unless its a 1/4 mile car only lol
but he has a 1.8...?
There all right i am affraid buy a t5 still good on fuel compared to the 1.8 i believe, then once used to the power tune it. If you need a bit more economy buy a 2.0d or even better a d5 then tune. Even tunned my 300 bhp t5 is still over the last 3000 miles is averaging 29.5 mpg in mixed driving!
