Car sales do not want to spend money on the car they're selling - cuts into their profit. Each have their own friendly MOT Station who may or may not choose to overlook certain issues.
I'd look at this as the perfect opportunity to have them Polybushed up.....I want to do mine along with some uprated drop links.
Have to say yes,, although only driven it up the road and back,,
BEWARE! looks like you may have pattern bushes in there - the rod that goes through the bush needs to be reused - if it doesn't have the fluting/narrowing in the middle, like this...
the bush will NOT fit and you'll have to grind the rod or ream the bush
It'll be well worth doing tho mate
Let me know if you need any more info on the job.

No doubt there will be play there mate...
Mine had loads of travel (no knocking) and they looked like this...
I suppose if they didn't knock, they may be passed, you couldn't get much movement from mine by just grabbing/rocking the wheel, it was when you put a bar in and levered it that it showed - up.

Thanks MRP
you are a star as always...
what makes you think its a pattern bushes ?
Thanks

Because it looks nothing like mine in the above pic. I realise yours are ££££t but whats left bears little similaritys. the outer sleeve is thicker on yours and there's no evidence of a seal round it. I could be wrong, and even if they are pattern ones, you might still have a fluted rod.

Hey
Wishbones are at the forefront of my mind at the moment as I've just changed mine for new ones. Even my old wishbone bushes were better than that and I was suprised how my car passed the MOT in March before I had the car.
This reminds me, I better get my second hand wishbones up for sale in the Parts for Sale thread incase anyone wants to acquire them for Polybushing. ;-)

James

I'd report them to VOSA! They'd soon loose their MOT Testing Licence or whatever it is, if the are found to be passing cars with serious defects. I'd also take it back to the garage and demand the part is replaced as the car was sold in a potentially unroadworthy condition. If they refuse to fix it, shop 'em to Trading Standards via Consumer Direct!

Just make sure you remove the hub bolt and keep pushing the driveshaft back towards the gearbox, otherwise the inner CV can fall apart and that'll be a right ball ache!
I neglected to put that in the guide.

Apart from the hub bolts, everything you need to know is in my how-to mate. Just take your time. It took me four hours to do the polys and shock absorbed on one side.
