Right, I have been playing with cars for a long time, but have always avoided turbo cars, I like a big N/A engine usually but have finally succumbed to the lure of a blower.
My love of stealth performance (I ran a 220bhp mk5 Cortina for a while) lead me to the 940, as well as my slightly challenged financial state and the fact that the Volvo has "relatively cheap" performance available.
I have got to the point now where I can start doing stuff to my LPT Celebration estate.
I picked this one as its a 2.3 turbo, has an M90 and a live axle as i was told the box and axle were strong enough to take extra grunt and the 2.3 has oodles of potential.
Heres my plan, first of all i'm going to pick up a boost gauge and a manual boost controller and turn the boost up to around 10 or 11psi, I was told at that level, everything should work fine, car should behave ok and make around 200bhp without any other mods, is that true?
Anyway, once thats achieved I shal be looking at getting the car on nicer rims and lowering it a bit (I have to remove the Nivomats I think) and then running it around like that while I build it an engine.
I'm gonna hunt around for another 2.3 turbo engine and build up something better, this is what i have been told works, can someone who has done it confirm its not all fairy tails?
I want to fit a 16v head, so was told using a belt and tensioner from a penta i can fit the 16v head from a later 2.0L 16v non turbo if I have pockets machined into the pistons, i was also told it would need uprated rods and obviously a custom turbo manifold.
Is that all true?
If so, any particular head or Penta parts I need to get?
What about cams? stock or aftermarket?
which rods and where from?
and what about the pockets on the pistons? where can i find out dimensions, or is it try it and see?
What about the Turbo? will it need a bigger one?
Also which management are people using?
I was told that sort of spec would make around 300bhp, and I should get rid of the dual mass flywheel, using parts from a diesel clutch.
Thanks for any help you guys can give me, i really cant afford to make to many expensive mistakes, the missus thinks I'm just
"tidying it up dear as its a lovely car to drive and I think we should keep it for a while"
