Thats not to say we wont head for more bhp if the opportunity arises, so like you say, we may as well start off on the right foot and save some hassle at a later date.

    lol
My brother has one.... well, he has rust with attached Ford bits!
300bhp in an e30 would make a very quick car, they only weigh around 1100kgs.

The diff will depend on gearbox choice and what ratios it has.
The standard E30 325i lsd is fine with 300bhp, but will be no good with the ratios of the 535i gearbox. I had a Z3m lsd with a suitable ratio, but stupidly sold it!

For the Cortina, I think Volvo will donate a rear axle to the project. I need confirm, but I think a modded 960 axle will work - I think they have been used in mk2 Escorts, but I need to check what Volvo axle and what ratios.

already on the band wagon here, i've got a 535 manual e34 with lsd and going to race it on orginal engine, when that goes bang its getting a t5 engine in it. will be asking the guy who fitted one in his autograss car regards the wiring etc but he didn't use the me7 engine.

as far as dizzy cap at back of engine goes just alter the bulk head to make room for the cap i'd say.

and 535 box's are not pricey seen them on ebay for £40 to £150, the dog leg box is the one that asks strong money.
because it just had to be done

Me7 engine is the later T5 engine? Sorry, still not caught up on the engine numbers etc.

Modding the bulkhead may work on the Cortina, indeed the engine may fit with the dizzy cap in place (we have not checked yet), but its not something I can see working on the E30. Even if we do, it means the dizzy will be 'inside' the bulkhead and a complete pain in the arse to get at.

I think the 535i box will be the one to go for, Im not sure Id want a dog leg box for everyday use and although they are pricey, Ive heard they arent all that strong when compared to the standard 535i box.

    Put it in the cortina!

Lob the Dizzy in the bin and do a coil pack conversion on it?
Ive seen it done on the YB engine, be easy enough to get a blank machined up but depends on what ecu setup you will be using?

what about using a t6 engine instead its a straight 6 too and you can push major power out of them

Yup, coil pack conversion seems to be the way forward. Havent looked into any ecu setups yet, but as long as we know its possible, those decisions can be made if needs be when we know which car is being used.

The T6 engine maybe a bit over the top for us if big power is the only upside. We arent after huge power figures and a slightly shorter and lighter engine is only going to help handling - hopefully lol

Im going for the t5 engine in the e36 from what i can work out you can use the e30 box you have with the adaptor plate.the only gearbox that is different is the one that bolts to the v8 bmw as its angled different

The 6cyl E30/E36 do share the same bellhousing bolt pattern, but the gearbox angle differs - the E30 6cyl box can used on the E36 engine but the box is tilted making the shift linkage an issue to sort. The E30 4cyl boxes don't suffer the tilt problem when used on the E36 6cyl engines - they aren't very strong however!

The E34 535i box bolt patterns differ from both the 12v E30 and 24v E36 engines. The V8 ones differ again I believe, but not 100% on that.
