    Engine Limitations

What are the physical limits (bhp) of a standard 2.3 20v turbo engine?

I know for extra strength you can uprate the internals with forged rods & pistons etc, But after the rica 310 whats next?

Once you have a 19t, downpipe, larger intercooler etc etc etc What is the limit of bhp the std engine & manual box can take before destruction??

    I was told 350-60 ish????

As J says, the ME7 plant (2000+ on) will take up around to 410 but that is on bent rods territory. I believe as previously told 350 is the "safe" max for any T5 lump. But the plus side being. I think thats at the wheels.......!

Speaking of which, what would the cost be of forged rods and pistons and would it be worth it for extra power gain?

MP, I have a spare 20valve lump & I looked into rebuilding it with forged internals. I was quoted about 800 quid for s60r rods & pistons from volvo which worked out cheaper than a couple of other places I tried. Obviously you will have the cost of everything else on top of that!!

That doesnt sound too bad to me i must admit. But labour will probably be more then double that!

Is the S60R Rods and pistons the best you can get for our cars then?

I assume ontop of that the transmission is going to need to be uprated aswell?
