There should be a bend in the brace, that lets it go round it.

yes it has the bend in it but the brake fluid thingy is still in the way
Not sure why it won't fit??
Maybe you have a different brake fluid resevoire?

What reg is your car?
I'm sure I read that the braces are not meant to be fitted to the earlier car (ones with the on-board diags)
Mines an early one, and the bar just touches the reservoir, but when we fitted one to T4_al's car, there was plenty of clearance.

mine is a early n reg and mine almost touches

its an m reg was yours hitting the top or the front
Just cos its genuine Volvo doesnt mean itll fit direct. I know the genuine braces for the T4 need to have the fuse box re-located down about an inch. I found that out when I fitted mine.

think on my car the brake fluid thingy is bigger than newer models just offered it upto where it should sit and i dont see it fitting hitting top of brake fluid tank with it sill to go lower
iirc the genuine Volvo brace is not designed for early 850's with the larger master cylinder reservoir and ABS unit bolted to the N/S strut top, but I've seen a few fitted that just touch and they seem ok.

cheers for the pics think i will just get a refund too much hassel
have you got the strut top parts on the right sides, not left on right, right on left ?
Sounds like it's a brace for a left hooker. Or perhaps not.....

BT's an early T-5 (850 turbo actually) & the strut brace is not meant to fit, as you can see it is very close to the brake reservoir but never been an issue. There is a bracket bolted to the passenger strut top for the ABS wiring which needs removing, but again not a major problem i just left it off
Mines also a early 94 car and mine just touches the resivior but fits ok

Are you trying to fit it assembled or have you unbolted it?, if you don't unbolt it (or at least loosen the bolts) then it will be a pig to fit.

I had one fitted to my early M reg T5-R and it too touched but never caused any problems.
