    The list is endless.......

So far on my '98 S70R, I've changed:
    droplinks
    wishbones
    track rods
    trackrod ends
both front suspension struts inc all bump stops and mounts etc (everything except the springs)
both rear top mounts and suspension struts
    replaced full pcv system
and its had a complete oil and filter change.

M.o.t coming up end of October and I need 2 new front tyres, new rear discs, a new rear caliper (seized piston), think my drivers side cv joint is on its way out and last weekend I discovered the steering rack is shot its leaking from both ends and the steering is very very light and jittery at low speeds and follows every bump and tramline in the road very very badly.

So how easy is it to change the rack and is it worth me getting one of those seal kits and trying to refurb it? What sort of a job is it to do and how bad???
    thanks in advance
    mark.

steering rack change, you have to lower subframe to do it. pain in backside to do on a drive. and not much more fun to do on a ramp (around 2hr job seem to remember on a ramp)

short term you can now buy a stop leak for power steering systems, used it in a pug other week as owner had no funds to change rack and that was pouring out, it sealed it and as of yet its not been back for rack changing.
because it just had to be done

I had the rack replaced on my 01 X c70. was only 180 quid fitted at my local garage. was leaking fluid all over the place and I thought that 180 was ok for the rack and fitting as then I did not have to get my hands dirty. Had tried the stop leak fluid and everything first but had to get it fixed in the end.

Mine was leaking from one side and was also very light, I tried all the usual oils and finaly used one by Lucas oils, it took a while and two treatments but now have a clean drive and a lot better feel to the steering.

The only thing it did'nt fix was the tightness in the steering first thing in the morning.
