Certain advantages as Claymore says - however personally I wouldn't put all that extra gear in my daily driver when a remap could do the job on long term reliability grounds.
If it's an unusual project car - maybe might be tempted then.

I would see no point in fitting one if you already have a mappable ecu like our volvo's

Sorry, should have appended "...for our cars" on the end of that. No knowledge of them on anything non-Volvo!
Cheers.

i looked into unichips for my car but i was advised not to bother unless it is very mildly tuned its standalone for me then lol
Im running one on my monster due to no one other than Marco at MTE willing to do custom work at the time and I couldnt wait until he was next in the country.
Mixed results, Im afraid. Mapping is fine but there's an interference issue between the unichip and the autobox electronics which causes a boost cut in certain situations.
Need to put the manual box that Ive got lying around in to see if this is true but even so it will need remapping again (everything has been pegged back to around 360bhp at the moment to save the autobox from self-destructing).
Chances are the unichip will get junked and will be going to Hamish @ HLM this time for a proper job.
All this in mind I would agree with Al...not the best for our cars.
'96 855 T5 auto ...GT30 and everything uprated!
