Is it ok just to use eibach springs on a 850 t5 without changing the dampers and if so what sort of ride would you get.

Yes it's fine to do that, I had a set of Eibach's on my last two cars and they both drove great. You should get a stiffer ride but it's not uncomfortable.

I changed from regulars to Eibachs (admittedly on a different car) but the ride was firmer and felt more 'connected' to the road.
You could feel a bit more through the ride but to be honest, it feels less floaty, more connected and more 'solid' then before and I much preffered it.
It will really tighten up your handling too - especially if you get your rear roll bar upgraded too.
Only time you might wish you had the old springs is if you drive over cobblestones - you will feel every single one of em!

I have just changed the springs on my v70. It's on 18's with really thin tyres so I have lost all my fillings. It is really really firm to say the least
