There was a thread started up on Volvospeed about 2-3 month ago,About only 19t fitted should add their opinion of what has been done to their cars and what has happened in failures,Most of them just bolted a 19t 3" d/pipe and performance exhaust on and all had con rod bent,or worse blown engines,
The only ones that hadn't suffered any damage were the ones mapped to run the 19t which were the Rica ones.
If you do a search on VS you will find the thread,It makes interesting reading.

Oh these motors when abused are far from breakable. Mine in the last 10k has had a head gasket go and the gearbox.... I blame the previous owners and my lack of knowledge prior to purchase but thankfully the old girl is 99% now.

Andrew is pretty much spot on! If a car has high miles and has not been looked after or has had a hard life, then it's only a matter of time before something breaks. Laws of physics and chemistry take over in the end.

Spesh have you got the engine out yet?Are you doing a rebuild or are you going to put another lump in it?
    As i know of a engine going for £800 + vat.It's a V70 2004 engine.

If the current ones bad getting a new engine could be an idea, give you lots of spare parts!

Doesnt give info on mileage for the engine though, also the fact their breaking a V70 cop car currently means it could have had a hard life.

Don't think it will be that high for max 2 years service, But you never know,
These engines go on forever mine is at 144k ex plod no probs at all touch wood, All he needs is the bottom end from the engine as it is already uprated with the stronger internals,Then he could sell the other bits on inc the head with the VVT.

Got to be worth a call.

Sorry guy but it would be way to much work to stick a 2004 engine into a 1994 car, so much more exta work, and I wouldn't be able to do it, ain't pulled the engine out yet, give me a chance, been in bed bad again today!!!!

If you find you need to get a replacement head and block try www.enginesdirect.com.
When I was researching buying a T5 I checked out what it would cost to get a refurb'd engine if necessary and they quoted me £1250 INCLUDING FITTING. They would re-use all the existing ancillaries.

In the end, the car I bought has already had the head & block replaced, and its the tired, original ancillaries like the turbo that are failing.

Plus, eh, as Spesh is no doubt aware but some people dont seem to have twigged to, it will require at least a new bottom end, unless somone is going to weld and recast the bit where the rod punched a hole through it lol. So, new block it is then, fingers crossed one with a bent rod or something going for cheapness and then can have forged bits put in it. I dare say a 2nd hand bottom end will be cheaper than buying a "bare" bottom end, ie no crank, rods pistons etc, from Volvo and swapping the stuff over, if even such a purchase could be made.

Still Volvo links though as my wife has a V50 R design sport and a mildly fettled T4
