Ok so Jacq phoned taggarts Volvo as she passed on the bus tonight, they have an 05 plate 2.4 D, says its 163 bhp but NON D5, I thought that happened 06 onwards when the 185 came in?

Worth a look, ie if it's solid and will map better than an older D5 anyway, is there anythign the old D5 was better at?

    Cheers for all info

Still Volvo links though as my wife has a V50 R design sport and a mildly fettled T4

So am wondering....what are the differences between the old (EIII) D5 and the newer 2.4d / 185 's?

I know the newer engine uses aDPF, gen 2 commonrail system (+ supposedly better quality injectors) and a VGT turbo but what else??

    tim..
