    Fuel consumption...

Is it me, or is the consumption simply terrible!
The best I've seen the average mpg go is 17.9, and Id say it sits at 15mpg most of the time...
How the hell do you drive it economically..
I do have a lead foot, but the past 2 days its reminaed in economy mode and i've been driving like a gran dad, but its still really bad! I must have spent about £60 for near 200 miles..lol

You're obviously not driving her right - I drive like a vicar (ask Moppy) and I get 20.4 av mpg.

    Fun in the twisties!

Think the novelty of a new car will wear off and I'll calm it on the throttle.. its just nice having a low key car that blows alot of other 'fast' cars! lol

    Mark,

Reset your trip computer as you leave for your next journey and then check what she is doing. Secondly if you haven't already done teh stage 0 tune up it might be a good idea to do it. Its amazing what and oil change and a bit of TLC can do for these cars!

17.9mpg seems really low - are u auto or manual? I'd expect around 20 for an estate or around 25 for a saloon!!

25 in a manual saloon is possible, but with my commuting I only get 20 mpg av.
Av speed is around 24 mph, so there's the reason!
I think I've worked out that tickover uses about a third of a gallon per hour!
On a motorway trip to Bristol it managed 27 mpg av - speeds between 70-90, with the occasional hoof when Mrs Goof was asleep!

After changing my thermostat in my 96 854 I have just reached the magic 30mpg. I do 100 miles a day to work on back on 90% motorways and 10% town roads.

You need a service then. These cars should have a a major service every 10k at this age. I had the oil dropped every 5k, and i would recomend the AFT being changed and an oil and filter and air filter minimum. This may help your fuel consumption

Cheers Dave. Can't wait to get home and plug it back in. Does it have any affect on the auto box btw? I have been experiencing some wierd gearchanges since tuesday - nothing crazy but slightly out I would say?

I thought this, but 3 years later, still driving as if I'd just bought her! I get 140 miles from £30. Tyres - a set a year, but then I get them cheap

I don't know. Put it back in and lets see. I hope there was someone at home to sign for it.

I would be worried if there was - he'd be too busy taking the technics out to sign for the delivery! It would have gone to the central post office probably. Only 5 mins from me, so all is coolio.

I get around 23.5 -25mpg most of the time , 30+ on a gentle run, and into the late teens if I boot her really really hard!
I think autos are a bit thirstier overall than manuals!
95-130 miles of £20 is about the norm for me.

A good regular service and quality fuel such as optimax helps!
