Does the Volvo strut bolt across the engine bay or somewhere in the depths?

I started this as a separate thread (as it had nothing to do with the ITG filter one).

Oh and it bolts across the top of the engine bay

A engine strutt brace is a must for anyone looking to mod there vehicle. the brace stretches from one top suspension mount to tuther.
    see....

The strutt brace will give greater cornering stability some say but imho it gives a lot more grip when accelerating stopping the wheels spinning by keeping the suspension legs square and rigid
    cheers

The strut brace fitted to my car seems to be incorporated into the top engine mount .Is this normal fitment or an adaptation?

Debateable i think. Dont the late 2001 on strut braces have some funny rubber bush affair??
Personally i would want it rigid with no rubber bushes.

The phase 2 thing is not a strut brace. It is infact the top mount for the engine. It has rubber bushes at each end. This stops it being useful as far as suspension turret flex goes. The design is in fact made to ensure that all engine vibrations are contained and thrown down the suspension into the wheels (making it quieter). IT IS NOT DESIGNED TO PREVENT FRONT END FLEX.

Simple answer is I dont know. I am only going of the info I have been told. I too for a long time believed that the phase 2 cars (V70 and S60) came with SB's as standard and wondered about the rubber ends until it was explained to me.

So when I fit one to my 1998 C70, I can just undo the 3 mounting bolts at the top of each strut and fit the brace. The suspension won't lose alignment or collapse with those 6 nuts removed?

no it wont collapse mate, just undo and refit.
your only taging the nuts off, the bolts keep everything in place and correctly aligned.
dont drive without the nuts in place of corse tho and torque the nuts up correctly.

    Cool

VST do one for P2 cars. You can also get poly bushes for the engine brace explained by Dave.
