    S40 sound system

Hi all, been having a browse around and thought i'd pop in to say hi.

I have a bog standard 98' s40 1.8 xs at the moment, bar a head unit. The sound is so weak it's untrue, i looked at putting some components up front and 6x9s in the rear to start with. But underneath the parcelshelf is a huge metal sheet which looks like it shouldn't really be drilled or cut into.

Also, the speakers at the front are tiny!

What can i do about upgrading all the speakers, what will fit straight in, and if not is there anywhere that sells adapters to fit slightly larger speakers?

    Cheers all, Dom.

I think autoleads do adaptors to enable non volvo speakers fitment but they do tend to be small. I thought about putting builds into the footwells but I ran out of patience.

Cheers, done a quick search and found the autoleads adapters for the front.

Still struggling with the rear though. Any more ideas?

I cut the metal shelf and put 6*9's in.

i then used windscreen rubber to stop the vibrations of the metal rattling.. although with twin 12'' Type S subs it didn't stop the whole car ratteling!!

in total my sound system had about 5,000 watts there.. and was stupidly loud.. glad i did it, but wouldn't do it again!

Just another quick question, did you stick the 6*9 in the same place as the originals, and just open the holes out?

Also, got any pics of the setup you had?

    Ta, Dom.

    Nicely done.

I would upgrade the standard speakers, but they are something daft like 4 inch, and i want bass.

Not sure on RMS' i'll have to find out...

i ran about 2500watts through 3000watt amp to power the twin subs from

the smaller one was used for 6*9's (2000watt ones off the site (350RMS))

    - they were ok.. but i've heard infinities that sounded better.

missing from the pic is a alpine V12 amp which powered the fronts and midi's. Alpine MRV-f340

topped off with a alpine cd player -
