If it is a eggy methane smell its the Cat,
Or it could be the Clutch if it is slipping,
    Probably the Cat though.

The fact of the matter is 1993 cars on require a CAT by law !

I’ve run De-Cat pipes on all my Cat required cars which then had to be replaced for mot's etc (well that’s unless I was able to give the guy the )

The Cat on the T5's is not a bad design really with regards to flow, but if you really want to release the bark of the T5, De-Cating is the way to go.

The only problem is, if you have a post 96 car with the OBD II or later ME7 engine management system you have 2 O2 sensors, one before and one after the cat. Pre 96 cars with the Motronic 4.3 system only have one which is before the cat. The O2 sensor after the cat is there to monitor the Cat and thus if removed will throw a CEL warning light. So to get round this you would need to fit a O2 simulator.

Some people that have De-Cated have run into problems with overfueling, but this could be down to a few other things such as type of ECU or state of Stage 0 Tune up etc.

My advice would be to leave the Cat in till you've done all of the other mods, and as most replacement DP's run Race Cats anyway, this would be the most preferred route.
