Turbo needs replacing - how much?

My '95 850 T5 Estate has blown its turbo and is going to need replacing. How much should this realistically cost me? I have been quoted around £1000 to replace it.

    Thanks

    What he said ^^^^^^^^^^^

They did the turbo on my last V70. Good job, no mucking about, significant change from £1000 and they give you coffee. Dog's mental but friendly.

See if you can pick one up from Salvo >>>CLICK FOR WEBSITE<<< I heard roughly £100 for a 15g and £150 for a 16t, If you can change it yourself then thats a HUGE saving.....

This is the dilemma i've been facing

go 19T larger turbo, remap and downpipe.. looking over 2k
go standard replacement 16T and looking about 1k
go 2nd hand replacement 16T and looking about £500
go 2nd hand replacement 19T and CAT looking about 1.5k
go 2nd hand replacement 19T and mod to fit standard CAT, about £900

so far im going last option unless i can find a nice 2nd hand sports CAT and downpipe, which is unlikely

(please note, prices are not direct quotes, only rough guestimates)

If you change it yourself I would highly recommend taking it to be "tuned" or "checked" to make sure all fuelling is correct. Boost Pressures right and even.

You could always get a cheapo secondhand unit and get it refurbed there`s a place not far from me that does such things and are quite reasonable with the price

    Cheers

Dont spend over £300 all in, as people have said you can get the turbo for £100 - £150 why pay more?

Spend the rest on fuel once its done.

Check with VT - They do an exchange turbo, which will leave you with an awful lot of change. If you live close enough, they could fit it and you wouldn't have a surcharge. They also do a kit, which gives you new manifold/turbo studs and nuts. You'll need these.
I got one from them - the service and product were excellent.

Circlips and seals, as long as you have a clean area, I would give it ago.

Is that it? Don't you have to dismantle it, get it rebalanced et cetera and so forth?
