    Popping out of gear?

Any ideas? On my manual T5R, every now and then, when the car is slowing down, and there is no 'load' on the gearbox, it will pop out of second gear into neurtral. Only happens occassionally but its bugging me! Dont think its happened in any other gear

What could or is likely to be the cause of this? I'm not too clued up in this regard!

I can't speak for Volvo's specifically, but other cars I've seen with this problem have had problems with the engine mounts in some way.

I don't even know if Volvo's use cable or direct linkage...being stuck with an auto

    Cable.

Not sure as to what could be causing the problem though. Sorry

I had the same problem in my T5R. I havent cured it yet (I just put it down to 240k!), but when I took the motor out the front engine mount was knackered. Can you feel engine rocking excessivley? if so get your mounts checked, T5's really chew them up.

yeah, driven it a fair bit today and was on the lookout for it. Its defo only 2nd on the overrun and it could be something to do with lifting off the throttle suddenly making the engine move and 'snatch' the gear out of place. not checked the mounts but they seem pretty solid from what i recall
Is there any cable adjustment at the gear selector end?

    Are you sitting down?

    2 things it will be.
1- engine/gearbox mounting split or worn
2- Worn synchromesh in the gearbox. (very common on ALL high mileage cars regardless of make and model.

I would drive it nicely and get it checked by a transmission specialist, cos if its the second then it wont be cheap.
It most certainly is NOT cable adjustment otherwise it would do it in 4th gear also.

    Good luck!!

Happy happy joy ! Well its not high milage in volvo terms - 105k and i'd imaging most of those will be sat in 5th tbh! I think first things first, I'll have a look at all the mounts, sounds like fun and games!
