    Sun Damaged Roof Lining

    Hello all from Sunny Australia.

I have a black 850 T5R, which clearly is the wrong colour for the climate over here (33-40 degrees all through december!). As a result, the roof lining strip thingy (that runs from the bottom of the A-pillar to the start of the rear windscreen on both sides), has peeled off.

I checked at a local dealer and he quoted near on 115 pounds each for the replacement strip, not including the fitting cost.

I'm hoping that someone on this most helpful site can come up with another option for me to tidy up my car.

    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi Kristoff,

Took me a while to figure it out. By roof lining I thought you meant the INTERIOR lining and couldn't figure out how the sun would damage that given that the sun is above your car.

I've now figured out you mean the black plastic strip that runs alongside the windscreen and along the roof.

The only suggestion I have is to search for bits from a scrapped car. Any Volvo breakers near you?

I know of an Independent Specialist in WA but that's like the other side of the country and I'm not sure if they have access to used parts.

If you're struggling to find a breaker then Capricorn Society may be able to point you in the right direction. They're a motor traders co-operative and the majority of motor traders in Australia are members. Do a goole search and you'll get their details.

Once you've got your new trim fitted keep it clean and conditioned with a plastic conditioner to protect it from the effects of the sun.

    Regards

    Andy

    Hi Kristoff,

I have the same problem. I have done a bit of research on this problem and basically there are 3 ways you sort it out.

    1) Replace with new or second hand parts
    2) Remove the trims, have them painted the proper colour (dark grey...I thik) and refit
    3) Remove and have a similar type of "decal" applied.

I am going to go down the painting route.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers.
