    Brakes Broke

    Hi Folks

I have had many Volvos but NONE as rusty underneath as, Black Bess, my current D5! The rest of the car is immaculate as it was owned by a disabled lady and she spent LOADS on it. But its time to change the discs and pads but every bolt and nut on this car is WELDED with rust. I FINALLY got the bolts out, but one of them ONLY JUST without gas axing the caliper off!! But the head is well rounded.

I need a new set of 4 bolts (as its brakes im not messing about with some 'Ching Wah' plasticene ones!) Can someone post a link to the pucka Volvo ones please?

    cheers

Are these the caliper bracket bolts? front or rear?

I ask as looking at the Vida it says the front caliper bolts are M12x35mm which is not what yours are there. Though it wouldn't be the first time Vida was wrong

Looks like Vida is wrong for some reason.

Appears the lower bolt is 5mm longer than the top one for some reason.

Ah of course, the steering lock stop bar attaches using the caliper bolts too hence why they are longer.

    Part numbers:
    Upper bolt - 985345
    Lower bolt - 985428

If you get in touch with FRF Volvo in Swansea they'll be able to help with genuine parts at a discounted rate just mention the forum (there is a code but I never get asked for it).

If you have a few quid to burn buy some Snap On FDX sockets. A 3/8” set from 8-19mm is commonly available. FDX stands for flank drive extra - this means they are an interference fit with socket heads. Not only will you never round the head of a bolt off again, but if you come across a bolt with a rounded off head these sockets WILL still remove the bolt. They are £130 a set. The best thing I’ve ever bought.
