    Idle query ?

"There is something odd going on! Volmech have told me that the car needs a new idle stabilizing valve. When you lift your foot off the accelerator and dip the clutch the engine revs up slightly then subsides again. it still goes ok but you can feel something is just not quite right. I priced the valve at £110 from a main dealer. "

Does anyone recognise this ? (The problem not the quote!)

    Thanks

The idle-air control valve (IAC) basically is a cylindrical device that bleeds air past the throttle butterfly. It's controlled by the ecu and is constantly adjusting so as to keep a smooth idle. However over time they can build up carbon and oily deposits inside and become sticky hence causing lazyness coming back to idle or and incorrect idle speed. I would remove it first (couple of hose clips and an wiring plug) and give it a good spray inside with carb cleaner or similar and then blow out with an air-line if you can. I think it's located under or around the plastic throttle body cover on the front right hand side of the engine as you look at it. I hope this helps.

Yes its fairly common on the 850's - my old 850 used to do it but I never bothered getting to the root of the problem I just learned to live with it
