Exclamation Lets say I smashed off someones wing mirror

For the boffs, Fully comp 7yrs no claims!
I am driving down the road and bang smashed off someones wing mirror ohh dear new BMW 5 series, wing mirror probably cost £100-£500 bearing in mind its in bits on the floor!!! I stop! I'll pay for that rather than claim on my insurance, I say to the betroot faced fat W@nker!!
I decided to ring insurance, Do I or Do I not pay my excess??? If I tell them? about the clash! I am not claming on my car as I have a new wing mirror ready and wating bought off ebay sometime ago.

I think you'll be talking nearer £500 than £100 mate.

If you have protected / guarenteed no claims, go down that route unless your excess is high. Thats what I would probably do.

If you don't have protected NCB, pay for it yourself!

Funny you should say that cos I whacked someones wing mirror this morning OPPPS

If you can affrord to sort it without getting your insurers involved then I'd do it that way

A whacked someones mirror a few weeks ago, was a hell of a clatter but mine was cool, no marks or anything, They had pulled on to my side of the road to avoid sitting in traffic as the were turning right further on, Woops a thought when a heard the bang and saw their mirror smashing all over the road, Did I stop? Did I hell, foot doon round the corner and away lol

I would pay yourself if you're able to. Even if you have protected NCB, no excess to pay etc, you will still pay more for your insurance next year becuase you are more of a 'risk'. Doesnt sound fair if you have protected NCB but it is a fact! In theory you should tell your insurance company regardless of whether you claim so they can properly assess your risk, TBH tho I doubt most of us would!

On the other hand, you may also find the other bloke wants to go through insurance anyway. He may demand a courtesy car whilst his is being fixed also adding to the bill! Not good news I'm affraid

you will not have to pay any excess at all because as you say you are not claiming for "own damage". All excess' these day relate purley to own damage and theft. In years gone by a driver would have a "all sections excess" which as its name suggests relates to all insured perils and was the same amount. Nowerdays you may have a different own damage (or a/d) excess from your theft excess. you may have no theft or a/d excess, or one or the other, depends on driving record , type of vehicle and where you live.....

Arbee my dear old fella i know you and i are essex boys and all that but you gotta be having a bubble baff.
in the 80's i was a underwriter at lloyds for general insurance company, in all those years not one case of anything like this did i hear of. incidently getting people to tell of there legal obligation with regard to convictions both criminal and motor related was hard enough. i know "risk" is such a highly publisied word in business these days but its all b0ll0x...
if my insurers (nig) expect me to report to them every time i have a near miss or scrape the curb they gotta nothing this coming. on my bike i have been responsible for the removal of more than one mirror, but even in the car, im sorry, i would have revved up and fecked off!!!
does this make me a bad person.... ......

BINGO!! I was told by insurance I would not have to pay a penny BECAUSE I WASN'T CLAIMINIG ANY OF MY OWN DAMAGE! I also rang back to make sure. Nice one christ knows how much a new wing mirror for a new bmw 5 series would have been! Believe me if it wasn't at my sons school and it wasn't a parent of one of the kids at school. I would have 'done one' sharpish

alrite guvna, nah it dont make ya a bad person, butzit coulds teknikley invalidat ya policeey cood it not? lol

If one were to say, write off three vehicles in a year, say under a company policy, and you weren't to to tell your own personal insurers about these mishaps upon renawal, then they may be a wee bit peeved if they discovered this fact, after you'd tried to claim from them for a accident in your own car on a personal policy! Worst case scenario and a bit different to knocking a wingmirror, but same principle all the same!

As i said, doubt many (if any) would disclose it!

brakes fixed? kind of - fixed the servo assistance problem. was just a leaking perished vacuum hose, £10 for a new length and roberts your fathers brother Was trying to see if this was related to the intermittent tracs light. It appears not! I'm gonna have to employ Mr W Dave's services in the nearish future I think!

I wouldn't pay the bugger a penny on principle, that he has a BMW! I would say the arrogant ££££e was crowning the road (like they all do until a white T5 estate comes flashing up behind them! ), and that if he took his fat egotistical head out of his arse instead of texting for porn and not looking , he would have seen the iminent impact!

If he is that fat, offer him a race for double or quits ( on foot). If he dies you are in clear , if he beats you he will be too knackered to argue ......and run away!
