How much does a T5 Estate weigh?

In the handbook it says to check the plate on the inner wing, which says it weighs 1970KG's!!! Surely that's not right! That's only 20KG's lighter than my Transit!

It goes too well to weigh any more than 1600KG's. Anyone know?

I may be wrong but I thought about 1550 to 1650 kg aprox so a very accurate guess,
1970kg sounds way over the top! surelly thats its towing weight or a AWD version.'

O.K., the figure on the plate is the gross vehicle weight. In my case (855 T5) it's 2020Kg. This is total weight fully loaded. The handbook says the kerb weight is on the registration document, but it isn't. I phoned Volvo & they told me the kerb weight of mine is 1485Kg., so the total permitted load would be 535Kg. Hope that helps.
    Cheers, Chris.

Aah, Cheers for that. I saw on a yank website (they love there T5's too!) that they weigh 3200lbs, which worked out to be approx 1475Kgs. Not a bad weight at all for a tank!

I noticed today that the T5 is lower & narrower than my sister-in-law's Mk5 Golf, so they're not as big as you think they are!

    Cheers,

    Gwaredd.

Bit of a thread revival here, a couple of weeks back I had a new Golf estate as a hire car, at my parent's house I parked it next to my 850 T5 and was completely shocked... with both front ends level it was the same length, yet the Golf was both taller and wider!

When I popped in to see the folks, I mentioned this to my father, he didn't believe it and had to come out and see for himself.

Cars are indeed much bigger now!

My 855 T5 weighed bang on 1500kg. At the local weigh bridge.
Had it up to 1980kg with scrap in the back

TBH kmb, a MK3 Golf estate (so the one around when the 850 was new) was only 20cm shorter than the current MK7 estate.
    MK3 Golf Estate: 4340 mm
    MK7 Golf Estate: 4562 mm
    850: 4720 mm

Anyway, I've had my V70 AWD auto on a weighbridge. With me at 75kg, about 15-20 litres of fuel and a 20kg spare wheel it was 1720kg

From my knowledge the 850 estates are under 1,500kg's and the AWD's are 1650 or there abouts.
it's funny as my mate has a stage 2 TT 225 Quattro which is a small coupe and it is 15KG's heavier than my Volvo saloon. These car's are really not that heavy for the size

Don't make excuses for people's sh it driving Dave! I used to drive Artics when I did agency driving and I managed to reverse park, negotiate corners without going up kerbs etc etc No problem. Seems, there are a large minority of car drivers that can't even do that.
Has nothing to do with the size of the vehicle.

Thanks for the measurements, I couldn't see a discernible difference in length when parked side by side.

What is interesting is the way the data is presented (this is unfortunately my daily job), you see I'd have said the following:

    - the Mk III Golf Estate is 38cm shorter than an 850
    - the Mk VII Golf Estate is 16cm shorter than an 850

I'd say a growth of 22cm in the Golf Estate was pretty significant, but not a surprise, and the only 16cm difference with an 850 is shockingly close.

My mate has an original Mini 1275 GT, he has a photo of that parked next to the new Mini, the size difference is hilarious!
