AW55-50 Fluid - the age old question

I've been looking for a definitive answer on what fluid to put in this gearbox when doing a flush/sump dump.

My local stealer is useless and will only entertain a 10% discount on £184.20's worth of oil even though I am reliably informed that their mark up is somewhere north of 40%. This is despite me owning several Volvos including one purchased from them new.

I'm in Northern Ireland so although I can get it for considerably less from a mainland dealer it cannot be shipped across the water for insurance reasons/hazardous goods etc. So I am trying to find the cheaper option but don't want to wreck my box putting the wrong stuff in.

Although Volvo won't tell you the grade of oil it does take I have read that this particular box will be fine on anything with a JWS 3309 rating. Can this be confirmed one here before I do a buy of at least 12 litres of the stuff? I'm not having any gearbox issues but with 125K on the car I'm trying to future proof it a bit by doing a change.

    Thanks in advance

    John

Fantastic. Thank you Didn’t have a handbook but just checked the downloaded version JWS3309 7.2 litres on page 238. Volvo dealer didn’t refer to me to that. They had stated that I could only use The Volvo fluid as they didn’t know the grade.

20 litres of JWS3309 ordered from Smith and Allan. Should get a few changes out of that.
