    Abs lights after torrential rain/hail-normal?

So a few week's ago, I went over to Hull in my V70 R, and after travelling through torrential rain most of the day my ABS light has been intermittent. Today, I've travelled back from Dudley to Home(120 miles or so) in my C70 through torrential rain and hail and now the ABS light is on in that car as well.

Can this/does this happen in extreme conditions and how long will they stay on for if there aren't any underlying issues? V70 is pre ME7 and the C70 is ME7, for what that's worth................and I had the reluctor rings done on the C70 last year.

Hi I have had similar lights on the dash and I found once the abs module was weatherd I had to clean the electrical contact in abs module and then went back to normal .but might be worth getting the codes read .

Cheers for the tip. No issues with either car before the atrocious driving conditions.

It does sound like water ingress has had a hand in this, may be some wd40 into the various connectors could help keep the light out

I'm just amazed that it's happened with both cars, but then the driving conditions have been some of the worst that I've ever seen. Will keep you posted on how I go on.

Weather has been fowl of late....dirt build up around the reluctor rings could also be a possible reason for the light

Thanks Adrian, and I plan to take a look when/if it stops raining/hailing/snowing, as I'm a street mechanic!!

Plugged my cheap code reader into the C70 and pulled code p1550. Removed that which put the check engine light out, but then she started and stalled almost immediately. That was just like before I cleaned the antenna ring and hasn't happened for 18 months or so. Resigned to the fact that she's off to my local indy, but anyone explain what is happening please? ABS light is still on.

P1550 is code ECM-510F, vehicle speed signal.

An Engine light coming on would not be caused by a faulty ABS sensor or reluctor ring. That would cause the ABS/TRACS and DSTC warnings.

P1550 suggests a malfunction with the Crank Shaft sensor. The symptoms you describe above could be caused by a faulty Crankshaft sensor but, definately not an ABS sensor/broken reluctor ring.

I'd definately take the car to your local indy for further diagnosis and try and avoid using the car in the mean time, as it could cut out at any point and leave you stranded!

So after being on since the heavy snow w/c 11/12, the ABS light on my C70 goes out today with me doing nothing at all to fix things.

    Happy days!!

It’s obviously not fixed and the light will be back on soon enough.

I have no doubt that you're right, but it's good to have a clear dash even if only temporarily!!

The ABS light on my R is still intermittent, but both cars will be checked out thoroughly before their imminent MOT's.

So after 600 miles + on a Scotland trip, the C70's ABS/engine management lights have not reappeared, and she ran like a dream. Hopefully she's sorted.........

So my R had an ABS module repair by my local Volvo idy, and she passed the MOT. However, the ABS light now comes on for the first 3 starts each day, but then goes out. Using her a lot at the moment so see how she goes on.............

    That's normal!

It should always come on then go out once you've started the engine.

Are you saying it doesn't come on at all after the third restart? If so, somethings wrong mate.

The first 3 starts of the car each day, and the ABS light stays on until the ignition is switched off again. But the 4th start of the car, the ABS light goes out after 20 seconds or so. Then each subsequent start that day, it goes out almost immediately and will do the same for the rest of that day. Only used the car on 8 days since the module repair.

Take it back! That’s not noRmal mate.
If you take your car for an MOT, it’ll fail.
