I too was looking at big end options when rebuilding my engine, there was a thread on VS they mention genuine for main bearings as they take less force than the big ends:

The force on the main bearings compared to the big end bearings is surely down to the size that they are?
Big ends are 50.000 and the mains are 65.000.
I don`t know why owners or DIY engine builders risk using different makes or designs which are not proven and risk a lot of money and work if the engine breaks up.
Volvo went to sputtered when they no longer used the location method and so sputtered are essential to the well being and reliability of the motor.
Of course as i am old school we used Hepolite or AE but who do Volvo use to produce to their spec. the engine parts?
So many are swayed by media conversations and pub talk instead of the way things were done.....it has all been done before.
