    Question 4c suspension

    Hi guys,
Possibly looking at a p2 with 4c suspension.
Never really had much experience with the p2's but I seem to remember the system being problematic & expensive to fix.
The car looks like it is on stilts so my first thought was stick some eibach springs on but having seen the 4c switch I thought I best ask if it can be lowered & is it as expensive as it was if it did go wrong?
    Thanks for the help.

You can lower them but have to reset the ride height with vida

Would that be possible with one of the eBay Vida kits Steve? I'm not sure I trust copy software on there.
    Cheers for the response!

You can lower it if you wish. The best - based on feedback - are the TME springs. V70R: 5586-133600 & 5586-133400 for S60R. http://www.tme.se/e_main.htm
Regarding the 4C itself, yes its an expensive fix if you wish to keep the 4C Monroe's, however there is an alternative way. Requires a bit of DYI & access to a machine shop to make the spring perches for the rears. Fronts are bolt on.

It's a well known fact that V70R/S60R handle better on stock springs than lowering, they're faster too!
I can honestly confirm the above too, as when it was on Eibachs it was just too crashy and you can never get the rear geometry perfect because you have to fit the IPD camber bushes. Setting up the car once lowered is a total PITA and costly and honestly not worth the aggro. I've been there, so I know!

If you want to improve things, then stick with new stock springs and new OE shocks, with the lastest SUM software and a proper full wheel alignment. Of course, the obligatory suspension components need to be replaced aswell, so allow around £600 just for poly bushes and labour.

I'm certainly in agreement with Lee's advice here, with one caveat regarding the SUM. Most of the folks on the us forum reported sloppiness after the SUM update. TBH I cannot confirm or deny the story told by others, however the us forum is full with such comments and complains.

I moved away from the OE shocks. Primarily due to price, quality and reliability reasons and by knowing I'll lose some of the 4C functionality. I'm happy with the Bilsteins (performance, road handling etc) and never looked back.
IMHO its a shame that the 4C Monroe does not last as long as the Sachs/Boge supplied to other Volvo's and costs as triple as much.
Ok, we have to pay some extra bucks for the functionality, however its a **** magnetic valve + software at the end of the day which makes the current/flow of the oil inside the shock slower or faster....
